In this verse Jesus was talking to the man who could not walk, yet He told the man to take up his bed and walk. It seemed strange that Jesus would ask a man to do what he couldn’t do.
Jesus will never ask you to do anything He’s not going to give you the power to do.
You may hear God speaking to you to give a certain amount of money, to give of your labor, to give away some of your furniture, to get on that plane even though you don’t like to fly, to help out at the church or whatever God may be asking you - you may feel completely unqualified for.
You may feel like you don’t have enough or feel like you’re not good enough.
If God is asking you to do it, if He is speaking to your spirit or speaking through another individual, then He will enable you. God would never ask you if He wasn’t going to give you the power to do it, to give it, to have it or to walk in it!
This man couldn’t walk. He was crippled for 38 years. If the man had been able to walk and carry his bed he would have done it long ago. Jesus came and said, “Rise, take up thy bed and walk!” The man could have replied, “But I can’t walk,” but instead he tried. And when the man tried he found there was a power there that he didn’t have on his own.
If God asks you to do something it isn’t going to be like it used to when you tried it in your own strength.
