“And she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in swaddling cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room available for them in the inn.” (Luke 2:7)

When Mary wrapped baby Jesus in swaddling clothes, she used old strips of Hebrew cloth and wrapped him like what they used to wrap a mummy. Swaddling clothes were really grave clothes.

I know we’ve all seen postcards with the fluffy bed and the nice blanket they got at Bed, Bath & Beyond to put in the manger. That’s what we’ve all seen, but these were really old strips of worn out cloth.

Death was wrapped around life… Perfection was wrapped in imperfection!

At this time of year, we look at how everything is wrapped – with the pretty paper, bows and bling that are on the outside of the package. We pay so much attention to the wrapping. God pays so much attention to what’s inside. There was baby Jesus, wrapped in poverty yet He was rich… Wrapped in nothing, yet He was everything… Wrapped on the run, and yet He’s the center of the whole world…

None of us are perfect, and sometimes the harder we try to be the more frustrated we get. The Perfect One is inside of Billy Burke, and the Perfect One is inside of you! He is perfect in every form. We are the imperfect ones, so perfection is wrapped in imperfection.

Instead of letting it frustrate you, tap into His perfection! Realize that it’s not your thoughts. When you think God’s thoughts, you’re moving towards perfection. It’s not your words, but when you say His words you are moving towards perfection. It’s not your desires, but when you desire what God wants you are moving towards perfection!

Today’s culture tells us to think perfect thoughts, and do this and do that. But it’s not about tapping into you, it’s about tapping into the Christ that lives IN you. He is the only perfect one, and He’s not frustrated by your imperfection – He came in the save you from it.
