Nicodemus had the Bible memorized. He went to church six times a week. He followed every rule. And Jesus looked at him and said — that's not enough. You have to be born again.

In this Mother's Day message, Pastor Mark Clark dives into John 3:1-8 and one of the most important conversations in the history of the Bible. A religious leader comes to Jesus at night — full of doubt, full of questions, not sure he belongs — and Jesus tells him something that wrecks his entire framework: being a good person doesn't get you into heaven. You need a second birth. Not of flesh, but of the Spirit.

Pastor Mark unpacks the difference between using Jesus and treasuring Jesus, why your public affection for God might not be telling the whole story, and what it looks like when the wind of the Spirit actually shows up in your life. He also gets personal about his own mom Carolyn who raised him as a single mother, the youth pastor who believed in him before anyone else did, and what happened the one time in his life he forgot his wallet at a drive-through.

This is part one of a two-week look at John chapter 3 — next week we get to the most famous verse in the Bible.
