Can Second Peter 3:8 be used to effectively countering a soon return of Christ in the first century? Many futurists have used the text for that purpose. However, Peter used 2 Peter 3:8 to teach that Jesus return was soon to occur in a very little while. This runs counter to modern prophetic teachings. We demonstrate in this (Part 1) and our upcoming release for Part 2 that a first century return of Christ is the only proper approach to the text.

But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance."

2 PETER 3:1-13 1 This is now the second letter that I am writing to you, beloved. In both of them I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder, 2 that you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles, 3 knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. 4 They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.” 5 For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God, 6 and that by means of these the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished. 7 But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly. 
 
8 But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed. 
 
11 Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, 12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! 13 But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

I'm a Minister, Evangelist, and Apologist of the Word of God and the Gospel of our Lord God Jesus Christ. I am an ex-mystic, occultist, and practitioner of witchcraft. I was into the occult for 16 years. My Lord Jesus Christ saved me by His shed blood, and now I work at exposing the Occult.
Now by the grace of God I preach Salvation by Grace through Faith alone, not of works (James 2 is not for salvation). Also, I preach once saved always saved, you cannot lose your salvation (Ephesians 4:30), otherwise again your belief would be then about works and maintenance of salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9/Titus 3:5/Galatians 2:16) and that is against the Word of God (Galatians 1:8-9)

*  I started going 'back' to church after many years. I realized something profound...

Many churches are preaching a 'type' of Jesus, and not the Jesus of the bible!

I was under the notion from Youtube Prophets, Facebook Prophets, and other supposed 'Prophets', that the church was lost, and all we could do was sit back and complain about the evil in the world, the corruption within the church and all of the 'bad stuff' going on, and simply wait for Jesus to return. We have lost our fire because of division and delusion.

God is still VERY MUCH ALIVE within His people, and He is VERY ACTIVE within the church to this day (if not more so). I have witnessed blessings within the community, the people IN and OUTSIDE

Until you begin to 'question' what you are being taught, and begin following Jesus through the Holy Spirit given to 'teach us all things', then you will only be following a version of Jesus, instead of giving your entire being to Him, which is what He needs.
