The Christian life will have its share of temptations. That’s because when a person trusts Christ as Lord and Savior, his or her spirit is regenerated but not the flesh. The flesh is constantly at war with the spirit so that the spirit wants to please God, but the flesh wants to please self. In Romans 6-8, Paul gives us a few directives about how to get victory over sin and temptation.

Alive to God (Romans 6:8-14) Living Life 09/15/2025 Daily Devotional Bible Study

My name is Ethan Smith. I believe the Lord saved my soul for real in 2009 after living a life of sin. I grew up as a Baptist but became reformed in soteriology Sept. 2010 after testing its theology with Scripture and praying about it with an open-mind. I was baptized in 2014 at Cubao Reformed Baptist Church but later became a "Reformed Presbyterian" in 2017.

The Trinity is the foundation of the Christian faith. There is no gospel or salvation without the Triune God of Scripture. It was the Father who graciously chose who will be saved, the Son who died in their place for their sins, and the Holy Spirit who draws them to persevering repentance and faith. Ungodly men are justified by faith alone (Romans 4:1-9) resulting always in good works (Ephesians 2:10).

What did Paul mean when he said, "not under the law, but under grace"? We're free from obligation to the Law of God? We have a license to sin and disobey? Of course not. 
 
“For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.” – Rom. 6:14 
 
Likely Paul had many glorious applications including the following: 
 
* Not under the Law as a covenant of life but under the covenant of grace 
* Not under the condemnation and curse of the Law but saved and forgiven by grace 
* Not under the weakness of the Law but under the strength of grace 
* Not under the Law as a means of righteousness before God, but under grace for righteousness 
 
Romans 6:14 describes Christians saved by grace in the context of sanctification and NOT non-Christians who are under the law and depending on works for salvation. Religious people of the world are under the Law's curse and condemnation; unable to please God or earn heaven through the Law of righteousness. The Law brings death. Grace brings life. Romans 6:1-14 (ESV) 1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? 3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 We know that our old self[a] was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. 7 For one who has died has been set free[b] from sin. 8 Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. 10 For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. 11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. 
 
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. 13 Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. 14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
