Christmas in the City is our attempt to highlight and celebrate the unique way God is moving to build a network of churches here in Asheville. Each Sunday during the Advent season, we'll feature a guest speaker from another local church in Asheville. This Sunday, we will be hearing from James Naisang, the lead pastor from Reach Life Church.

As a spiritual director, my goal is to help you develop your faith with a purpose. What is that purpose? A deeper relationship with Christ through practical spirituality. When you develop that sort of relationship with God, finding God's will for your life will become that much easier.

As a graduate student at Loyola University's Christian Spirituality program (with a focus on Spiritual Direction), I wanted to share what I am learning to help others develop their own spirituality. It is an ecumenical spirituality program that includes Christians from every denomination, as well as non-Christians from other religious traditions. Whether you are Catholic, Baptist, Methodist, or "just Christian", this channel is for you.

Directional Faith

This Christmas, it's hard to find God's will in everything going on in the world. Frankly, God's will doesn't make sense right now? 
 
But maybe we're only seeing what is right in front of us. 
 
In this video, we'll look at Matthew 2 (13-23) and discuss how Joseph followed God's will when he fled to Egypt with Jesus and Mary. But if Jesus was meant to be a king, why would He need to flee? 
 
We can now see the bigger picture and that it was part of God's plan all along. What seemed like obstacles became opportunities to fulfill God's will for their lives. Prophecies were fulfilled through those drastic actions. 
 
To Joseph, it may not have seemed like it made any sense at the time, but we can now recognize God's plan in all of it.

Paul was illegally arrested and tortured as a Roman citizen. Now the magistrates want him to slip out quietly! Paul will have none of it and demands a public release, scaring these men to death. Why were they so afraid? What were they afraid of? And how could they actually know that Paul was indeed a Roman citizen? 
 
From here Paul goes to Thessalonica where he's persecuted and has to flee to Berea. We end on a high note with the Bereans searching the scripture to see if what Paul was saying was true. They were noble indeed (which is sort of a play on words). 
 
This is our last study prior to Christmas break, 2020. Will resume in early January, 2021.

I. Three Reasons the Message of Christmas Takes Away Fear 
 
A. The message of Christmas takes away fear because God hears our prayer (Luke 1:13). 
 
B. The message of Christmas takes away fear because God visits us (Luke 1:68, 78). 
 
C. The message of Christmas takes away fear because God has redeemed us! He has saved us! (Luke 1:68,69,71,74,77). 
 
II. Three Right Response to the Message of Christmas 
 
A. God takes away our fear, and in response: we serve Him (Luke 1:74).
