Any real relationship begins with vulnerability. The place where we connect with Jesus is through our vulnerability. We can see all throughout the Gospels people connecting with Jesus thru their vulnerabilities. The teacher Nicodemus saying, “I don’t get it”. The powerful Roman centurion who has no power to heal his servant. The sick woman who has now power to heal her body. The traitorous Zaccheus who doesn’t know how to get back into the family. Our starting point is our vulnerabilities, our weaknesses, the places where we aren’t enough or not doing it right. 
 
“Jesus is mighty not because of His capacity to overcome hardship but because of His willingness to go through human hardship, like we have to do.”

The Christmas Story According to Jesus

The Christmas story is found or alluded to in many places in the Bible. Some of the accounts contain a lot of detail; some, not so much. And each account is told from a different perspective. Matthew 1-2 tells the story primarily from Joseph’s perspective. Luke 1-2, from Mary’s. Galatians 4:4-5, from Paul’s. And there are others. Today we’ll look at the story as it comes from the lips of Jesus. It’s recorded in Hebrews 10:5-7, in what, as we’ll see, records a conversation between Jesus and the Father. Let’s take a look at some of the things this record tells us about Jesus first advent. 
 
His coming was promised. 
 
• Jewish expectations of Messiah’s arrival, were extremely high in the first century. 
 
• Notes… 
 
The speaker…Jesus. 
 
The subject…His first coming. “…when He comes” actually looks backward to a time before His coming. 
 
The source of the quote…Psalm 40:6-8. 
 
His coming was purposeful. 
 
• As noted in the introduction above, these verses are essentially a conversation between Jesus and the heavenly Father. (“You” is the Father.) 
 
• The purpose, or reason, it was necessary for Jesus to come…born to die… 
 
According to Hebrews 10:1-4… 
 
Recall what the angel said to Joseph in Matthew 1:21… 
His coming followed a unique plan. 
 
• “…a body You have prepared for Me…” (verse 5). Those “preparations” involved the amazing… the miraculous…the supernatural…touch of God in more ways than we can count. Such as… 
 
 
 
 
 
• The greatest miracle of them all… 
 
 
 
His coming is as God’s only provision for the forgiveness of sins.

Sunday 13 December  |  "Covid Christmas" Micah 5:1-5 & Luke 2:25-35

Awaken Christian Church

On this glorious and beautiful Sunday, Pastor Phillip Tucker senior pastor of Awaken Christian Church in Boston, led a powerful sermon preaching from the Books of Lamentations, beginning by Pastor Ingrid sharing her testimony. As we approach Christmas, we leave no doubt that Jesus is the reason for the season, and thank Him for everything that He has done, giving Him all the praise, honor and glory! Bringing forth a word inspired by an article that came forth in Boston Magazine of “Feeling Blue and the Heaviness of COVID”. Reflecting on the pandemic impacting every demographic in our country, our youth being impacted by changes in education, the impact on mental health and our joy that has been muted in some cases, BUT God! The spirit of depression and heaviness can make us feel alone, alone physically but if we have God then we are in harmony, we are a majority of one, He will never leave us nor forsake us. He calls us to walk in obedience, rejoice always, pray continuously, and give thanks in all circumstances! Tune into today’s sermon to hear the root causes of depression and write down the 7 keys of overcoming them in the tablets of your heart knowing with God’s love and protection you are more than a conqueror! For in Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else, guard your heart, for out of it flows the wellspring of life.”
