Mapping Out The New Year - Proverbs 3:5-6 - 12/26/2021

For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. — 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 
 
I think it's unbelievable that Paul wrote this. Primarily because Paul's life of persecution requires us to read these words from his perspective. He does what we should all do in affliction. He weighs on the fulcrum of life the weight of present afflictions against the weight of God's glory. And on the fulcrum, there is no comparison. You have to get a new scale. This is why Paul calls all present afflictions "light" and "momentary." 
 
So yes, the messaging in our world is pretty messed up today. And yes, our afflictions are getting greater. But maybe as we approach a new year we should weigh all these "present and seen afflictions" against all God's unseen glory. Because fellas there is no comparison. God's glory is greater. We have to stay focused on eternal matters and not be weighed down by the matters of this life. 
 
So today get some fresh perspective by moving your focus from the things of this life to the things of God's glory. Let the issues of this life become lighter. See them as momentary and temporary. For a day is coming of permanent glory. Till then worship God and stay focused on him. 
 
ASK THIS: Is your perspective all messed up? Are you giving too much weight to the matters of this world? If so, confess this below. 
 
DO THIS: Give weight to eternal matters. Glorify God and stay focused on him. 
 
PRAY THIS: God, my attention has been too focused on matters of this life. Turn my attention to you. May I give you and eternity the weight they deserve.
