Excerpt from Journal of the Proceedings of the Seventy-First Annual Convention of the Diocese of Massachusetts: Holden in Trinity Church, Boston, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, May 8, 9 and 10, A. D. 1861; With an Appendix
The ante-communion Service was read by the Bishop, assisted in the Epistle by the Rev. Winslow W. Sever, Rec tor of St. Mary's Church, Newton.
The annual Sermon was then delivered by the Rev. Nicholas Hoppin, D. D., Rector of Christ Church, Cam bridge, from the text, 2 Cor. V. 14 and 15 For the love of Christ constraineth us, because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live, should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him that died for them, and rose again.
