This book, Biblical Counseling: A Topical Index for Christian Living, is a compilation of over 200 topics describing difficult situations that every one of us, believers and nonbelievers alike, may face in life at one time or another. It is completely searchable by typing in a topic, or tapping or clicking the contents page.
The topics are listed alphabetically, some with subtopics to cover different aspects of a situation. For example, when you see the topic Abortion, you’ll notice the subtopics, “Contemplating abortion,” and “Forgiveness after abortion.”
Next, we pulled nuggets from Pastor Chuck’s commentaries to help you apply God’s Word to your particular situation. Oftentimes you will find that these commentaries give illustrations to explain clearly and simply what God has to say. After Pastor Chuck’s commentary, you will find a list of Scripture references that pertain to each topic, categorizing them as:
God’s Perspective: How God views a situation; His commandments for or against it.
God’s Promises: What God will do for someone who chooses to obey His Word.
How to Make a Change: How a person can bring about change in their life.
Biblical Examples: Events and characters in the Bible that portray the topic.
Prayers Found in the Bible: Actual prayers as an example or pattern to emulate.

When people came to Pastor Chuck distraught and heartbroken seeking his counsel for their personal dilemma, he simply replied, “The best thing I can do is give you God’s Word rather than my own thoughts or opinions.”
When we understand that the Bible is the final authority for our faith, it eliminates any confusion when it comes to issues in life. As soon as we accept the Bible as God’s Word, we then have the basis for guidance and direction. Following its precepts brings us into spiritual maturity and we’re able to live a life pleasing to God. So when we get off course, God’s Word corrects us, instructs us, and guides us back on track. This wisdom from above equips us to face any crisis and enables us to help others who may be going through difficult situations.
In our beloved Pastor Chuck’s life, three qualities were evident––His love for God, His love for the Word of God, and His love for people. Though he has gone on to receive His eternal heavenly reward, thankfully he has left us with a legacy of studying God’s Word chapter by chapter, verse by verse. He once said, “When we step out in faith, we have the Word of God to step out upon.”
Chuck Smith (1927 - 2013)
Pastor Chuck was used in the Jesus People revival where he was used along with others to minister to the hippy young people. They saw a work of the Spirit where many were added to the church and discipled. He has raised up many pastors who are a part of the Calvary Chapel movement now and where he pastors the large Costa Mesa church in California. The Calvary Chapel movement is based of simple principles that Chuck Smith taught over the years such as: The priority of agape love, Simple fellowship amongst the saints, the breaking of bread, the teaching of God's word chapter by chapter and verse by verse. And lastly and most importantly the principle not by might nor by power but by my spirit saith the Lord.
