The Storm at Sea and in the Soul: The Early Life and Conversion of John Newton, and His Connection with the Slave Trade
This book relates the tempestuous story of the first three decades in the life of John Newton (1725-1807), narrating his experiences to the year 1754, at which point he abandoned life at sea and terminated his active involvement in the African slave trade.
The beginning of his conversion to Christ took place on board a merchant ship, which was badly damaged and nearly foundered off the coast of Ireland in 1748. This part of the story is told in his own words.
The material for this work was gleaned from three sources, all of which are in the public domain.
