Loraine Boettner introduces us to this majestic subject by contemplating the immeasurable height, depth, length, and breadth of the mystery of the Triune God, pointing out that it is the distinctive mark of Christianity. William S. Plumer then gives us a helpful overview of the fundamental issues regarding the Trinity. Following this, Wilhelmus á Brakel takes us significantly deeper into the mystery, explaining the concept of three persons within one essence. Boettner then helps us with two more articles—a readable exposition of the doctrine itself, followed by the controversial subject of order and subordination within the Trinity. A. W. Pink helps us to see that this doctrine is the basis of all New Testament teaching. And in spite of its depth and difficulty, á Brakel tells us what a profitable doctrine the Trinity really is for God’s people. This leads to John Owen’s discussion of communion with each member of the Holy Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Finally, Charles Spurgeon earnestly wants to correct the erroneous idea that Jesus Christ is our Savior to the exclusion of God the Father and God the Holy Ghost. From 1958 until his death in 1990, Dr. Boettner lived a quite life in Rock Port, Missouri. For the remaining 32 years of his life, he generously sold his books at cost to any who wrote to ask for them. In doing so, Boettner made good conservative theology readily available at a time when such material was often difficult to come by.
