The Correspondence of Thomas Carlyle and Ralph Waldo Emerson, 1834-1872: Supplementary Letters (Classic Reprint)
Excerpt from The Correspondence of Thomas Carlyle and Ralph Waldo Emerson, 1834-1872: Supplementary Letters

These newly found letters have been inserted in their proper places in an enlarged edition of the Correspondence, but are here printed together for the benefit of owners of the early edition. The dates of the letters Show their places in the Correspondence.

Emerson's letter of 1 May, 1859, of which only fragments were printed in the early edition, is now printed complete; and the extract from his Diary accompanying it appears in the form in which it seems to have been sent to Carlyle.
