Este comentario al Libro de los Hechos de los Apostoles se publico por primera vez en ingles en 1952. No parece que la editorial de la Iglesia de Escocia ni el mismo William Barclay tuvieran intencion de publicar mas comentarios a otros libros de la Biblia; pero fue tan sorprendente el exito que obtuvo este que hizo que se convirtiera en el primero de una serie que incluiria todo el Nuevo Testamento en un tiempo record de seis anos. La serie se llamo en un principio Lectura biblica diaria, y eso era lo que pretendia ser: una ayuda para los que quieren leer la Biblia por si mismos. Camina a traves de las paginas de este libro y estudia el nacimiento de la iglesia primitiva y del ministerio poderoso de un hombre llamado Pablo."
William Barclay was an author, radio and television presenter, Church of Scotland minister and Professor of Divinity and Biblical Criticism at the University of Glasgow.
While professor, he decided to dedicate his life to "making the best biblical scholarship available to the average reader". The eventual result was the Daily Study Bible, a set of 17 commentaries on the New Testament, published by Saint Andrew Press, the Church of Scotland's publishing house.
The 17 volumes of the set were all best-sellers and continue to be so to this day. Barclay wrote many other popular books, always drawing on scholarship but written in a highly accessible style.
