David Servant

David Servant ( - )

David Servant is the Founder of Heavens Family, helping the least of these world-wide. David Servant has been serving in ministry since 1979 as a church-planter, pastor, teacher and missionary. When David Servant read the results of his high-school vocational aptitude test, he laughed. The results told him that he was best suited for a career in ministry or in entertainment. At the time, David's future goal was to live in a log cabin in the wilderness and live off the land for the rest of his life. The Lord, however, had different plans for David Servant. God didn't intend for him to run away from the world, but rather to play a part in changing the world by building God's kingdom. David received his call to ministry during his (reluctant) freshman year at Penn State, and one year later was enrolled in Bible School.

David Servant is the author of eight books, including Forever Rich, and the The Disciple-Making Minister, a 500-page equipping manual that has been translated into more than 20 languages and is being distributed to tens of thousands of pastors.

The Cross Prefigured

As a young Christian attempting to digest the Old Testament, I found myself somewhat disturbed by all of the references in the Pentateuch to animals being slaughtered and offered up to God. The whole idea of killing animals as a part of religious ritual seemed much too unsophisticated for the God I ... Read More

The Cross Preordained

In eternity past, God "dreamed a dream," if I might say it in human terms. He desired to have a family. He wanted children upon whom He could shower His great love. They, in turn, would reciprocate by loving Him and each other. Together, they would live in a perfect world, in a perfect society, enjo... Read More

The Cross Proclaimed

The apostles proclaimed a message radically different from the so-called gospel message prevalent in many Evangelical41 churches today. Too often, the biblical gospel has been replaced by a modern gospel that is void of practically every essential biblical element. This modern gospel proclaims, "Acc... Read More

The Day That Jesus Lied?

It is always pure joy to discover more people who are focusing on the substance of what following Jesus is supposed to be all about—loving God with all our hearts and our neighbors as ourselves. These two commandments are what Jesus said are most important and what encapsulate all the rest (see Matt... Read More

The Deity and Humanity of Jesus Christ John 1:14; Isaiah 7:14; 9:6

Yesterday we read what John wrote about Jesus being called "the Word." A few verses later in his Gospel, John said, "the Word [who is Jesus] became human and lived here on earth among us" (John 1:14). John was talking about when the glorious God Jesus was transformed into a baby in Mary's womb, live... Read More

The Ennoblement of a Secular Vocation

My calling to vocational ministry came not long after my conversion to Christ, during my freshman year at Penn State. That call was so compelling that I can remember wondering then how other Christians could consider a "secular" vocation to be an option for their life's work. "How could a person be ... Read More

The Faith and Doubts of Jesus' Disciples Matthew 16:1-20

As we continue reading the life story of Jesus, we'll learn that He faced a growing opposition from the Pharisees and other religious leaders. Those men who were supposed to be servants of God hated God's Son with a passion, and wanted to ruin Him. Ultimately they succeeded in killing Him, but that ... Read More

The First Time Jesus Cleans Out the Temple John 2:13-25

Many people like to hear about God's love, but they aren't interested in hearing about God's anger with sin and wrongdoing. Today's reading reveals that side of God. Jesus was obviously very angry about what was taking place in the Temple, and He reacted furiously. What was Jesus so mad about? Of co... Read More

The Greatest Servant Teaches About Serving Mark 10:32-45

When we read about James' and John's selfish request to sit at Jesus' right and left hand in His kingdom, it makes us realize how much they needed to grow spiritually at that point in their lives. But praise God, they did eventually grow up, although not overnight. James and John should also serve a... Read More

The Greedy "Christian"

Standing on your right is an elderly Korean woman, the wrinkles of many hard years etched across her face. To your left stands a short, young Russian man. The Inward Voice

Although the Law of Moses was given to the descendants of Israel sometime around 1440 B.C., God had already given the entire human race another Law that predated the Mosaic Law by at least 2,500 years—a Law that He wrote upon every human heart. To that Law He held every person accountable, and again... Read More

The Limits of God's Grace

Perhaps no biblical story better illustrates the grace that God offers—the true grace—than that of Jesus' encounter with the woman who was caught in the act of adultery. Bringing her before Jesus, the scribes and Pharisees reminded Him that, according to the Law of Moses, she deserved to be stoned. ... Read More

The Parable of the Good Samaritan Luke 10:25-37

Like the religious teacher we read about yesterday, the teacher in today's story also understood that the most important commandments were to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and love our neighbor as ourselves. If a person did those things, he would, according to Jesus, inherit ... Read More

The Parable of the Ten Servants Luke 19:11-27

Many of Jesus' followers, including His closest disciples, assumed it would be just a short time before He would do what the Old Testament said He would do: set up God's kingdom on the earth and rule over it from Jerusalem. But the truth was, in less than a week's time, Jesus would die for the sins ... Read More

The Parable of the Vineyard Workers Matthew 20:1-16

What was Jesus trying to teach us in this parable? Some think the point is that we'll all have the same reward in heaven no matter how long or hard we work for the Lord on earth. But that can't be right, because the Bible teaches that each person will be rewarded individually, according to his own l... Read More

The Pharisees Request a Sign from Jesus Matthew 12:38-45
