David Servant

David Servant ( - )

David Servant is the Founder of Heavens Family, helping the least of these world-wide. David Servant has been serving in ministry since 1979 as a church-planter, pastor, teacher and missionary. When David Servant read the results of his high-school vocational aptitude test, he laughed. The results told him that he was best suited for a career in ministry or in entertainment. At the time, David's future goal was to live in a log cabin in the wilderness and live off the land for the rest of his life. The Lord, however, had different plans for David Servant. God didn't intend for him to run away from the world, but rather to play a part in changing the world by building God's kingdom. David received his call to ministry during his (reluctant) freshman year at Penn State, and one year later was enrolled in Bible School.

David Servant is the author of eight books, including Forever Rich, and the The Disciple-Making Minister, a 500-page equipping manual that has been translated into more than 20 languages and is being distributed to tens of thousands of pastors.

The Pre-Existence and Deity of Christ John 1:1-3; 17:5, 24

The story of Jesus begins long before He was born as a baby in Bethlehem. Because Jesus is and always has been God's Son, He existed before anyone or anything was created. John wrote that Jesus was with God "in the beginning" (John 1:2), which means before the world was created and before time began... Read More

The Preachers Prepared

As you may have suspected, in this second part we will primarily be investigating the book of Acts and the epistles. It is there that we discover the full revelation of all that was accomplished through Jesus' death. One might ask why Jesus didn't reveal all that His death would accomplish before He... Read More

The Records of Jesus' Ancestors Matthew 1:1-17 Luke 3:23-38

What long lists these are! Aren't you glad you don't have to memorize all those names for your history class? Why are these two lists of Jesus' ancestors not identical? Probably because Matthew recorded Jesus' ancestry through His stepfather, Joseph, and Luke recorded Jesus' ancestry through His mot... Read More

The Rich Man and Lazarus Luke 16:19-31

Jesus told this story of the rich man and Lazarus directly after He told the story we read yesterday of the shrewd money manager. Both stories teach us something about how God expects us to view and use money. The final conclusion of yesterday's story was, "No one can serve two masters. For you will... Read More

The Savior Presented

Thus far we've learned that the death of Christ was preordained from the foundation of the world, prefigured by millions of animal sacrifices spanning thousands of years, and predicted by the prophets for centuries. There was no halfhearted preparation for the event that would make it possible for G... Read More

The Snack We Call Supper

At the last church that I pastored, I required that our ushers wear a coat and tie on those once-a-month Sundays when we celebrated the Lord's Supper. It seemed to me that those who distributed the elements of Jesus' body and blood should demonstrate at least that much respect in performing their sa... Read More

The Stories of the Two Sons and Evil Farmers Matthew 21:23-46

Today's reading contrasts Christ's reception by the common people with His rejection by the religious leaders. When the leading priests demanded that Jesus tell them by what authority He had driven out the merchants from the Temple, He responded by asking them a question: Had God commissioned John t... The Story of the Shrewd Money Manager Luke 16:1-14

Jesus' story of the shrewd money manager is one that many people have difficulty understanding. However, if we first consider the lessons of the story that Jesus shared at its conclusion, it's easier to understand how the story leads to those lessons. Jesus mentioned at least three lessons His story... Read More

The Unbelief of Jesus' Brothers and People of Jerusalem John 7:1-36

According to what John wrote, before Jesus' death and resurrection, His own brothers didn't believe in Him. This teaches us that believing in Jesus means believing more than the fact that He was just a person in history. And it means believing more than the fact that Jesus did miracles. Jesus' broth... The Uncommitted "Christian"

Recently released from jail, a young communist disciple wrote to his fianceé, breaking off their engagement: We communists have a high casualty rate. We are the ones who get shot and hung and ridiculed and fired from our jobs and in every other way made as uncomfortable as possible. A certain percen... Read More

The Value of Children Matthew 18:10-14; 19:13-15

The first part of today's reading is a continuation of what we read yesterday, when Jesus was teaching about the value of little children who believe in Him. Today we again learn that it's wrong to despise little believers because God places such a high value upon them. He cares about them so much t... Read More

The Wise Men Visit Jesus Matthew 2:1-23

Mary and Joseph remained in Bethlehem for at least a few weeks after Jesus was born, and it may well have been during that time when the wise men visited Him. They had seen a star appear in the sky about two years earlier that led them to Jerusalem. Unfortunately, we don't know much about those wise... Read More

There's a Sheep Born Every Second

It was reported by the Associated Press that, near the town of Gavas, eastern Turkey, one sheep among a large flock walked to the edge of cliff and jumped to its death. A second sheep quickly imitated the first, also leaping off the cliff to its death. Then a third sheep followed. Then a fourth. The... Read More

Unrighteous Shall Not Inherit

Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you—unless indeed you fail the test? (2 Cor. 13:5). In the above-quoted verse of Scripture, we find a succinct definition of what a Christian is: He is a person ... Read More

We are Branches in Jesus' Vine John 15:1-17

Using the analogy of a vine, Jesus explained what a true Christian is: he is a person who, as a result of being joined to Jesus, produces fruit. Fruit, of course, represents the good things that we do. It includes our actions, attitudes, words and answers to our prayers. We can only produce that fru... Read More

What God Wants

The amalgamation of all that comprises contemporary Christendom sometimes obscures the one thing that is by far the most important. Hidden underneath all the clutter is something that is supposed to be preeminent. Without it, all else that is done under the banner of Christ becomes essentially worth... Read More

What To Do When a Fellow Christian Wrongs You Matthew 18:15-35

Jesus wants His followers to love one another as devoted friends. But sometimes, through thoughtlessness or misunderstanding, two followers of Christ are divided. What should you do if that happens to you? In most cases, you should simply overlook other people's thoughtlessness, knowing that if they... Read More

Whom Can We Trust?

Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being (Psalm 51:6). Last month when I was in Sri Lanka, I made a point to visit a world-famous orphanage director. Zacchaeus is Saved Luke 19:1-10

You may remember that most Jews despised tax collectors in Jesus' time. Not only did they work for the occupying foreign government, Rome, but they also made themselves very rich by overcharging their own countrymen. Zacchaeus was no different than any other tax collector of his day: selfish, greedy... Read More
