H.J. Vine ( - )

H.J. Vine was involved in the early Plymouth Brethren movement. The Plymouth Brethren are a conservative, low church, nonconformist, Evangelical Christian movement whose history can be traced to Dublin, Ireland in the late 1820s, originating from Anglicanism.

Among other beliefs, the group emphasizes sola scriptura, the belief that the Bible is the supreme authority for church doctrine and practice over and above "the [mere] tradition of men" (Mark 7:8). Brethren generally see themselves, not as a denomination, but as a network (or even as a collection of overlapping networks) of like-minded independent churches.

The Love of the Brethren

“We know that we have passed from death unto life because we love the brethren. He that loves not his brother abides in death” (1 John 3:14). When the purpose of God has come to full fruition in a reconciled universe; when the eternal results of the purpose of the ages in Christ Jesus our Lord have ... Read More

The Mighty Men of David

David was the anointed of God, and the throne of Israel was his; but it was during the time of his rejection that the sterling qualities of his mighty men were tested and proven in hardship and warfare. So it is today; our Lord Jesus Christ, the Anointed of God, is rejected by the world, He is not y... Read More

The Mystery of God’s Will

We live in the day when this has been made known to those who are the subjects of God’s redeeming grace, who have heard and believed the Gospel, and who are saved and are sealed by the Spirit. It centres in Christ, but it concerns us. It is according to God’s good pleasure, but it for us to find ple... Read More

The Oil of Gladness

“I seem to be different to other Christians. I don’t seem to rejoice as they do. I would like to be always overflowing with gladness.” But that is exactly what you are always going to be! You have received Christ as your Saviour. You rightly call upon God as your Father; that cry of relationship has... Read More

The One Foundation

Notes of an address given in Edinburgh in April, 1921 It was by the apostle to the Gentiles the Spirit of God said, “Other Foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” In these days, therefore, when every fundamental truth is vehemently assaulted, those who are of the faith o... The One whom God Delights to Honour

Of all the circles which God has counselled and planned for glory, order and blessing, that into which the church, the assembly, is brought is the chiefest, for the assembly is the body of Christ who is the Head of all things. The members of His body are out-called from the world by God’s grace, but... Read More

The Overcomer’s Riches, Reward and Rest

Earnest religionists, in their endeavours to flee from the flagrant corruptions of the world, have often fallen into worse forms of lust and pride by entering monasteries and nunneries. The true believer in the Son of God, on the other hand, is to be “in the world” and yet “not of the world.” The pl... Read More

The Pierced One

Those who know Jesus—Jehovah the Saviour—as their Lord and Redeemer, may with good reason rejoice in the atoning value of His precious blood, and let their hearts overflow in praise to Himself, as the writings of the Holy Spirit portray Him before their gladdened souls. Zechariah pointed forward bot... Read More

The Prophet Jeremiah

“The Exaltation of the Lord” “Whatever things were written aforetime were written for our learning” (Rom. 15:4). The rich treasures of the Book of Jeremiah are just as much ours as are those of the other Scriptures of Truth. For our instruction God our Father has preserved this precious book of mora... The Prophet Jeremiah - Part 2

THE SEED ROYAL IS PRESERVED. The New Testament opens with the genealogical proof that Jesus Christ is of David’s royal line; yet the Old Testament foretold that He should suffer and be put to death before He took the throne; and thus it came to pass: He was cut off out of the land of the living; God... 1 Thessalonians 1:9-10, 4:14-end; 2 Thessalonians 1:10; Colossians 3:4. Our subject is the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the two principal stages of His coming, which are termed the Rapture and the Appearing. The Resurrection of the Dead

“This Gospel of God, concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh, and declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead” (Romans 1:1-4). The Son of God Marked Out At the very comme... Read More

The Resurrection Proved

Evidently the apostle had been very diligent in his enquiries as to the resurrection of Christ as a Man from among the dead. It was a serious matter; and he writes to the Corinthians, “If Christ be not raised your faith is vain, ye are yet in your sins”; but he marshals his witnesses to show that wi... Read More

The Revival of Spiritism; What it Indicates

Those who are instructed in the Word of God by the Holy Spirit are not surprised at the present-day recrudescence of Spiritism; rather would they be surprised did not such a revival of this ancient cult take place; because it has been long foretold in the sacred writings as that which would take pla... The Sacrifice of Praise

Notwithstanding the declension in the assemblies which profess Christ’s Name, by Him we are told in Hebrews 13:15 to offer “the sacrifice of praise to God continually.” When depressing influences would rob God of such offerings—just as Israel’s altars were desolated of old—it is good that those who ... The Same, The First and The Last

Isaiah 41:4; 44:6; 48:12; Revelation 1:17; 2:8; 22:13 (N.Tr.) The Saving of the Soul

“Them that believe to the saving of the soul” (Hebrews 10:39). “Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls” (1 Peter 1:9). The Seed

“Remember Jesus Christ of the seed of David raised from the dead according to my gospel” (2 Timothy 2:8). “Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham.” It is thus that our Lord is introduced to us in the first verse of the New Testament, but this was after God had made great promises of roya... The Shepherd Seeking the Sheep

Luke 15:1-7 The last verse which I have read to you, dear friends, gives no authority whatever for the thought that there are in this world men and women so good and so respectable that they need no repentance.
