Good news for all. Mark 7:24-26

Jesus gives great lessons to those he speaks to. Whether it is his disciples, or teachers of the law, or the crowds. This is a lesson to the crowds and so it is a lesson for us. What makes us clean or unclean?

We cannot keep holding on to traditions that are in opposition to the word of God, the Bible. These are things we must let go of. The traditions we hold onto are those that are consistent with the Bible - even when society no longer agrees.

Keeping up with traditions can destroy the work of the gospel of Jesus. Jesus brings freedom, but some traditions and rules can bring heartache and pain and fear. So hold onto good traditions and embrace the freedom of Jesus.

If I saw a ghost walking across a lake toward me, I'd be terrified. But once I realized it was my friend, I would think it was amazing. However, my terror might indicate something about myself and my own heart I don't want to admit.

A Rejected Request - Mark 5:18-20

There is a prayer that many people use when they are not sure about something - "O Lord, give me a sign!" It's a prayer we understand, but it's the wrong request. God has given plenty of signs of his presence and his glory. We can look at that sign and see the glory of God that it points to. We can ignore it all together (not a wise move). Or we can see the sign and get our focus stuck on the sign, not to the God that sign points to. 
 
In this sermon, we'll see this is where God's people have gone wrong, but before we think it is only historical, Brian is showing us all that we can do the same thing today.

Or is there something we are missing and making it a secret when it doesn't need to be? And if it is a secret, how did you learn to understand it?
