Are you relying on your own goodness, sure that God has missed how good you are and that one day when you get the mediator, witness and redeemer, all He will have to do is remind God how good you are? 
 
Or 
 
Are you relying on the Mediator who took your place under the wrath of God? The Witness who knew the depths of your despair and willingly came into this world, in the form of a man, sinless and perfect and died the death you deserved? The Redeemer who has purchased your life with His blood? 
 
Only one road leads to life.

"Prejudice and Pride" | Job 4:1 - 31:40 | October 16th 2016 | Part 6

Job's friends held God to the idea that He only punishes those who have done wrong, meaning that as Job was suffering he must have done wrong. 
 
Job also originally had this same idea of God's theology of retribution but soon learnt that couldn't be the case as He could find no sin deserving such a punishment. 
 
It is easy to be the bad counsellor, one who proclaims that others are wicked, getting off lighter than they deserve or are worse than we thought. We may have done it before but let there be encouragement not to do it again. 
 
Let us be wary in our comfort, let it be our goal to comfort in a way that is distinctly Christ focused, not trying to lay blame at the feet of the victim but pointing them to the WHO, the answer for suffering. 
 
The one who is completely innocent and who suffered the wrath we deserve. The one who took out place!

Job a man who knew God well, one who honoured and worshipped God, despite the trials came to the end of himself. After months of immense suffering and pain Job was wishing the world had ended as he'd been born or that he'd never been born or that he had died before the suffering had taken place. 
 
If there is no sufficient answer to the sin and its affects of suffering in the world, Job thought it was better that he be dead. 
 
We often are quick to assume that no one else has struggles, yet we are encouraged to think that every character in all of the Bible faced trials and tough times and even the likes of Jeremiah and Elijah were greatly despairing. 
 
Let us take the encouragement that the church isn't filled with perfect people or others with perfect lives. The church is a gathering of people who are broken, who don't have all the answers and who are in this fallen world facing the affects of sin. 
 
But we can take hope in knowing that there is one who suffered in a way we can never image. The only perfect sufferer. The only one who didn't deserve any suffering. The God who suffered the full fury and wrath of God in our place! 
 
Let us take hope not in trying to know the reason for our suffering but know who can end our suffering!
