The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the greatest event in all human history. God’s entire plan of the ages rests on that one glorious event. But what you also need to know is that God’s entire plan for your life rests on that glorious event as well. 
 
The personal significance and meaning of the resurrection is found in one of the simplest verses in all the Bible, “God loved the world (and that includes you) so much that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” 
 
 In other words, the reason God sent His Son is because He loves you and doesn’t want you to perish. He wants you to have everlasting life. Someone might say, “Why would God love me? He’s holy and righteous and surely he knows about all the messes and mistakes I’ve made, why would he want anything to do with me?” 
 
 It’s God’s nature to love and He sent His Son so the world would know just how much He loves. He sent His Son to seek and to save that which was lost, He’s pursuing you. That’s love. He’s knocking on the door of your heart, He’s calling out your name, and He wants you to open the door of your heart so you can have a relationship to God as your Father. 
 
You may be a sinner; but it just so happens that He’s a forgiver, He’s a redeemer. He gives righteousness to sinners as a gift, you don’t even have to earn it. Eternal life is a gift, you just have to ask. 
 
Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life, he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die.… Do you believe this?” 
 
 Someone might say, “How can you say this? Surely you know that everyone dies.” Of course I know everyone dies, I know that very well. When our daughter was killed a couple of years ago it was the most difficult thing we’ve ever endured, but it was her body that died. Her soul lives, she was given eternal life because she asked Jesus into her heart as Lord and Savior. 
 
 Everyone will die a physical death, the statistics on death are pretty impressive; something like one out of every one people die physically. The older you get the more you understand that. When you’re young that’s harder to grasp. When you’re young it seems like you live forever, but the truth is you’re growing until about 22 years old, and then it’s all downhill from there. 
 
 God sent His Son so we would have hope beyond the grave. Death is not the end. When you breathe your last you don’t simply cease to exist, God made our souls to be eternal. The question is what happens after we breath our last breath on this earth. God sent His Son so we would have hope beyond this life. 
 
 Do you have hope? What do you put your hope in? 
 
 The resurrection is about having life instead of death. The resurrection is about having hope from God instead of despair. He ignites our soul and fills our lives with meaning and purpose and transforms us by His presence in our lives 
 
 The resurrection of Jesus takes place on the first day of the week at the dawning of a new day. This becomes a picture that when you receive Jesus into your life it’s the dawning of a new day, it’s just the beginning of experiencing life and life to the full. Some people in this room are just one sunrise away from God turning your life around.

The resurrection is not just the greatest day on the calendar, it’s the greatest day in all human history. Everything prior looks forward to it and everything after looks back to it. 
The road to the cross began before the foundation of the world. God sent His Son to reconcile the world to Himself, and the entire plan of God rests on the cross at Calvary and the resurrection of Christ from the dead. 
The road to the cross comes to Jerusalem as Jesus rode into Jerusalem on this day which begins what is famously called the “Passion Week.” He rode into Jerusalem on the foal of a donkey; He taught in the temple, He healed the sick, and He confronted the Jewish leaders. Later that week He was betrayed by Judas Iscariot, arrested and then brought before Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor, who had Him beaten, scourged and crucified. 
When Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the foal of a donkey, crowds were casting palm branches on the road in front of Him, shouting from Psalm 118, “Hosanna! Hosanna to the Son of David;” declaring Him to be the long-awaited Messiah, the King of Israel and the hope of the world. 
There was anticipation in the air, something big was about to happen. The crowd longed for someone who could overthrow Rome and who better than the man who raised Lazarus from the dead and who confronted and humiliated the Jewish leaders that everyone knew were corrupt. 
But Jesus didn’t come to conquer Rome. Rome would fall on its own. Jesus came to conquer something much bigger than Rome, He came to conquer death; He came to become the Resurrection and the Life; to become the Way for us to be reconciled to God as our Father. He came to pay the penalty for our sin so we could be set free and have a life to live for eternity! 
This is a story about God on the move. God is sending His Son. He is on the road to the cross. Some will receive Him as King; some will resist and harden their hearts. But it’s a story that is personal; how will you respond? 
Did you ever step back and ask what God thinks of sinners? Did He look down on this world and say, “Wow, look at those wonderful people. They’re just so adorable I can’t help myself, I just have to have them with Me in heaven.” Like when my wife sees a puppy or like when many see a baby, they’re just so adorable you have to have one. 
No, God looks at sinners and sees that they’re in trouble. God loves you and He sent His Son to seek and to save that which was lost. God sent His Son because He loves sinners and wants to reconcile sinners to Himself. 
The story begins with those who receive Him with joy. The crowds are shouting and celebrating; they have found their King! 
 But the story is also about those who refuse to receive Him, to open their hearts. There were many that resisted the Holy Spirit, kicking against the goads, stiffening their necks and hardening their hearts. Why? Because they want to be king of their own lives; master of their own destiny, captain of their own soul. 
Here’s the problem, people don’t have enough power to become king of their own soul; master of their own destiny. When they stand before God on judgment day they won’t be able to say, “I don’t recognize the authority of this court.” 
There is a day fixed when every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. 
This is a story about God on the move. The road to the cross comes down the Mount of Olives with Jesus riding on the foal of a donkey with the crowds shouting, “Hosanna! Hosanna!” But the road to the cross also brings Jesus in direct confrontation.

Jesus said to Nicodemus in John 3, “Unless one is born again he cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven.” If you have received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior you have been born-again… into the kingdom of heaven. In other words, you’re living in the kingdom of God now and there is a completely different set of principles that operate in the kingdom of God. 
Everyone has a set of principles that guide their lives. Living in the world, it’s easy to adopt the principles that operate in the world. But those principles are not of God and they don’t bring life, those things result in death. The problem is that we brought a lot of our old thoughts and our old ways of doing things with us when we came into the kingdom of heaven. 
Peter shows us what it means to live in the kingdom of God and the heart God desires in those who come to Him. He wants to bless and strengthen and help us, especially through the troubles and difficulties of life. 
Those who received this letter from Peter were going through persecution and trouble and needed to understand God’s help and God’s heart for them. They needed to understand the character that God desires in the heart of those who live in the kingdom of God.

These verses in John 6 are about a storm that God uses in the lives of the disciples. The Sea of Galilee is famous for storms that come suddenly as wind, coming off of the Mediterranean, sweeps across the plateau and then bears down against the steep cliffs of the Golan Heights forcing the wind upon the sea, roiling the waves into a storm cauldron of wind and waves. 
If you’re like me, maybe you’ve been complaining about the weather we’ve had this winter. But then you read in the news about the serious storms in other parts of the country and it makes you appreciate what we have in Oregon. 
You never know when storms will come. You read about tornadoes in Oklahoma and across the Midwest and then I think about how fortunate we are we don’t have tornadoes here. But I was shocked to hear about the tornadoes that touched down last year in Manzanita creating serious damage and several touching down just west of Hillsboro. 
There are many ways storms can come into our lives. Of course, there are literal storms, but there are also storms that come in relationships, or financial difficulties, or legal troubles, or challenges with health, or the sudden and unexpected death of someone you love, or troubles in the lives of your children, or getting laid off from work or conflicts with people around you. 
There are two types of people in this world. Those who are going through a storm; and those who will be going to a storm. 
An extremely important lesson we see in the scriptures is that God uses storms to increase our faith and transform our lives. We could call them “perfecting storms.” 
There are things you learn from a storm that you can learn from nowhere else.

This is our final weekend message out of the book of James. This is one of the most relevant, down to earth using the wisdom from heaven, practical, in-your-face books of the New Testament. 
The two great themes that run through this book are wisdom and faith. We are called to live by the wisdom that comes from above rather than the so-called wisdom of the world, of the culture around us. We are called to be different. If anyone has wisdom from above, James wrote, let it be seen in how he lives his life. 
The same is true with faith. If you have living and active faith and not dead faith, it will also be seen in how you live. You should live according to your faith. 
Life is a journey with many ups and downs, but faith must be an integral part of that journey, in fact, our faith should guide our steps and the word of God should light our way. 
In our verses today, James connects this journey of faith to the trials, troubles, sicknesses, and difficulties of life. One of the most significant ways faith is connected to life is through prayer. Some of the greatest lessons on faith come through these verses because these are the practical, everyday challenges of life. 
Is anyone among you suffering? Is anyone among you sick? Is anyone struggling with a sin? These are part of the journey of life, but when you bring faith into life, it changes everything.

I mentioned last week that the book of James could be considered the Proverbs of the New Testament. That’s particularly clear in the verses we’re studying today where he calls them to live according to the wisdom that comes from above. 
The other theme James writes in this letter is that authentic, genuine faith will be seen in how you live. In other words, living and active faith brings good works, good deeds, and good fruit in how you live. 
That’s also true of wisdom; if you have godly wisdom, it will be seen in how you live. That’s the evidence of it. Wisdom brings good fruit from it. “Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom.” 
He starts with a question, “Who among you is wise and understanding?” Do you know anyone who is wise? If someone is wise it will be seen in how they live, in how they make decisions. And in particular, it will be seen in relationships. What you believe about God, if it’s living and active faith, will be a blessing to those around you. In other words, relationships reveal what you truly believe. It’s a heart issue. 
There’s a big difference between knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge is really about facts and ideas, but wisdom is about applying truth to life, it’s about having the discernment that comes from living by godly principles. 
Wisdom is so important that the Bible says over and over that it is more valuable than great riches. 
Proverbs 16:16, How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen above silver. 
If you were given a choice between great riches and great wisdom, which would you choose? It takes wisdom to understand that wisdom is more valuable than great riches. Why? Because a fool and his money are soon parted.
