Cities in Judah given to the Kohathite clan of Levi. 
5. The people of Beth-shemesh worship the Lord.

6. When one enters into the presence of God. 
Exodus 3:1-6 
Do not come near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.

9. Conclusions for today. 
 Remember our God is Holy in him is no sin at all. 
Jesus has gone into the most holy place in heaven where he intercedes for us.

Dagon had fallen face downward on the ground before the ark of the LORD, and the head of Dagon and both his hands were lying cut off on the threshold. 
4. Samson in the House of Dagon 
Judges 16:23-30 
Our god has given Samson our enemy into our hand. 
So the dead whom he killed at his death were more than those whom he had killed during his life. 
5. The hand of God was hard against the Philistines and their god. 
1 Samuel 5:6-7 
He terrified and afflicted them with tumors, both Ashdod and its territory. 
6. The temporary solution - send it somewhere else. 
1 Samuel 5:8-10 
Let the ark of the God of Israel be brought around to Gath. 
The hand of the LORD was against the city, causing a very great panic, and he afflicted the men of the city, both young and old, so that tumors broke out on them. So they sent the ark of God to Ekron 
7. Send it back to its own place.

8. The recognition of a true God.

Recognize the hand of God. 
Worship him as God.

1. Eli and His Sons 
They had sinned greatly against the Lord. 
They were breaking the covenant and failed to carry out their responsibilities as priests. 
2. His Sin – The prophet and his message 
1 Samuel 2:27-28 
Exodus 7:1-2 They were priests descendants of Aaron. 
Exodus 28:1 Moses set them apart and anointed them. 
Exodus 30:30 They served Yahweh as priests. 
3. The Priest’s Portion 
Exodus 40:14-15 They were appointed to serve as Priests from generation to generation. 
Numbers 18:8-24 They were given the tithes, offerings, and first fruits as their portion and inheritance. 
4. ELI’s sin and failure to repent 
1 Samuel 2:29 
Why then do you scorn my sacrifices and my offerings that I commanded, and honor your sons above me? 
5. The Promise 
The Prophet’s message: Thus says the Lord, 
Therefore the LORD the God of Israel declares: ‘I promised that your house and the house of your father should go in and out before me forever,’

6. The Judgment 
1 Samuel 2:30-34

7. A Difficult Translation Problem 
KJV says, “And thou shalt see an enemy in my habitation in all the wealth which God shall give Israel:” 
NIV: says, “you will see distress in my dwelling. Although good will be done to Israel,” 
NASB says, “You will see the distress of My dwelling, in spite of all the good that I do for Israel;” 
ESV: in distress you will look with envious eye on all the prosperity that shall be bestowed on Israel, 
8. Grace For the Future 
1 Samuel 2:35-36 
And I will raise up for myself a faithful priest, who shall do according to what is in my heart and in my mind. And I will build him a sure house, and he shall go in and out before my anointed forever. 
9. THE BIG QUESTION 
Does God’s dealing with us who have come to faith in Jesus differ from the Old Testament? 
There are also many similarities and differences: 
Both Old Testament and New Testament believers need to respond in faith to the Word of God. 
God still disciplines those he loves and receives as his people. 
We both serve the same God. 
Exodus 34:6-9 
The answer is yes!! We are under a different covenant. 
There is a Major Difference 
We are under the covenant of grace. 
Romans 3:21-26 We are justified by faith 
Romans 4:7-8 Our sins have been forgiven 
Romans 5:1-2 We have peace with God through Jesus 
Romans 8:1 There is no condemnation 
We are spared from the wrath of God. 
But we cannot go on living as we once did when we did not know Jesus. 
Galatians 6:7-9

Hebrews 13:13-15 
We all have received grace upon grace 
John 1:16-17 And from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

Leviticus 10:8-11 
To teach the people of Israel all the statutes that the LORD gave Moses. 
Leviticus 17:5-6 the priest shall throw the blood on the altar of the LORD at the entrance of the tent of meeting and burn the fat. 
Leviticus 7:28-36 the right thigh you shall give to the priest as a contribution from the sacrifice of your peace offerings. 
4. The Wickedness of the Sons of Eli 
1 Samuel 2:13-17 
The sin of the sons of Eli was very great, they treated the offering of the LORD with contempt. 
5. They did not obey or fear the Lord. 
1 John 2:3-6 Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar.

6. The Boy Samuel

The young man Samuel grew in the presence of the LORD. 
7. Eli Rebukes His Sons 
1 Samuel 2:22-25 
If someone sins against a man, God will mediate for him, but if someone sins against the LORD, who can intercede for him? 
8. There Is a Mediator 
1 John 2:8-10 
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 
1 Timothy 2 :5-6 
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all. 
9. CONTRAST 
But Phineas and Hophni would not listen to the voice of their father, for it was the will of the LORD to put them to death.

10. Conclusions 
We have an eternal high Priest 
He is the mediator of the eternal New Covenant with God. 
He made the perfect sacrifice which washes away all our sins. 
We know him if we obey his words and they abide in us.

3. The definition of exalt, exalted and exaltation 
Exalt: to raise someone to a higher rank or more powerful position. 
To be exalted: is an adjective that describes the one who has been lifted up to the position of honor or power. 
An exaltation is a noun that describes both the experience of having been lifted up and the vocal expression of an extreme feeling of happiness and praise.

Exalt: to raise someone to a higher rank or more powerful position.
To be exalted: is an adjective that describes the one who has been lifted up to the position of honor or power.  
An exaltation is a noun that describes both the experience of having been lifted up and the vocal expression of

“Hope that Does Not Disappoint” 
1 Samuel 1:1-20 
1. In whom or in what do we put our hope? 
Proverbs 13:12 “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.” 
Psalms 27:1 Unless the LORD builds the house, 
those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. 
Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 
2. Who was Elkanah and where was he from? 
1 Samuel 1:1 
There was a certain man of Ramathaim-zophim of the hill country of Ephraim whose name was Elkanah the son of Jeroham, son of Elihu, son of Tohu, son of Zuph, an Ephrathite. 
3. Where did he go and why? 
1 Samuel 1:3 
This man used to go up year by year from his city to worship and to sacrifice to the LORD of hosts at Shiloh. 
4. Hannah - her vexation 
1 Samuel 1:4-8 
Her rival used to provoke her grievously to irritate her, because the LORD had closed her womb. 7So it went on year by year. As often as she went up to the house of the LORD, she used to provoke her. 
5. Hannah’s Hope 
When finished eating she approached the tabernacle where Eli was seated to offer her prayer to Yahweh. 
6. Hannah’s Nazarite Vow 
Numbers 6:2-5 
When either a man or a woman makes a special vow, the vow of a Nazirite, to separate himself to the LORD, he shall separate himself from wine and strong drink. He shall drink no vinegar made from wine or strong drink . . . 
﻿All the days of his vow of separation, no razor shall touch his head. 
7. Eli’s Response 
1 Samuel 1:12-18 
 “How long will you go on being drunk? Put away your wine from you.” 
17Then Eli answered, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition that you have made to him. 
8. Our hope that does not disappoint. 
Whatever your requests make them known to God. 
And the peace of God will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. 
9. He is the God who sees, hears, and answers our prayers.

10. God’s Answer to Hannah 
Hannah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Samuel, for she said, “I have asked for him from the LORD.”
