There are many sins in one’s life that have become acceptable and considered respectable. But once again, Paul would beg to differ with the 21st century Christian’s idea of sins, even those that we deem socially acceptable. We will discover what they are and again be motivated to put them to death.

The apostle Paul knew the seriousness of sexual sin and will not mince words as he warns of these sinful passions of the heart. So what is causing you to be impatient today? Traffic? Long lines at the grocery store? People that talk too much? A crying baby or a strong-willed child? Do things like misplaced keys, stuck zippers, popped buttons, cold food, spilled milk, interruptions in your day or feeling rushed make you impatient? The things that cause us to be impatient are so mundane in comparison with what the readers of James were going through. But, they are important to our heavenly Father who has numbered the very hairs on our head and cares when a sparrow falls.

It is natural for believers to look to their spiritual leaders during these times of trials, and so the shepherds must be living out their calling! They also must be readily available to shepherd their sheep during such tumultuous times! It is also true that leaders may have a special challenge to be faithful and not run away in times of persecution. When things get intense many times shepherds (and sheep) flee or apostatize, which of course proves that their faith was not genuine. Let us then consider what a good pastor should look like as well as the behavior of God’s sheep.
