Satan is powerful! Can anyone overcome him? Yes, the "Mighty One of Jacob" can- aka Jesus. (Isaiah 49:26) Sinners cannot be broken free from the chains of Satan's slavery unless Jesus breaks them. Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. "The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." (John 8:34-36)

The Scribes' accusation against Jesus was unfounded and absurd. They were saying Jesus, who did miracles and casted out demons, was of the devil. What was His response to that?

Sometimes we think we are not like the Pharisees in any way, but we forget that they, and we, are much alike in one way or another. Since we were born sinners, we all have sinned against God. One aspect is that of sinful pride that leads to self-glorifying and rivalry against others like it happened with the Pharisees.

The Sabbath was made for us. We were NOT made for the Sabbath. That's what Jesus said to the Pharisees who accused HIs disciples of "harvesting" grain on Sabbath. Often we are told to obey God's law in a way that we are in bondage to it. Since Jesus is Lord and He is the author of the law, we need to pay attention to His right interpretation of the Old Testament. Is He the Lord of your life?

Jesus IS Above The Law (Mark 2:27-28)

The old way of fasting under the first covenant does not fit with the new situation when Jesus, the Bridegroom, was with us on earth. Now we await His return to take us to the  marriage supper of the Lamb. Jesus used the examples of new wine and new wineskins for us to understand this!

Fasting is one of the things we believers do sometimes while our Bridegroom, Jesus, is temporarily not with us, but fasting is NOT mandatory. However, all fasting will be over when Jesus comes again to take us. There will be no need- Hallelujah!

Scribes And Pharisees (Mark 2:16)

Levi (Matthew) was a tax collector. No Jew wanted him to be his friend. However, Jesus chose him to be His disciple. What did Levi do to show Him his gratitude and honor Him. Let's see what scripture says!

Do You Honor Jesus? (Mark 2:15)

Jesus chose Levi (Matthew) to be His disciple and that surprised the Jews because Levi worked as a tax collector for the Roman government. Therefore he was not considered equally to them by other Jews! However, Jesus was gracious toward Matthew and forgave his sins. Praise the Lord that we, as sinners, can come to God as we are- and be saved!

Just As We Are (Mark 2:13-14)

There are many paintings of Jesus having some glow around his head and wearing some white clothes. Was His appearance so distinct than other men? No, He looked like other men of His time. That's why Jews and religious leaders did not 'see' anything special about His appearance. Yet, He taught and healed people like He had the authority of God!
