In Luke 19:10, Jesus says, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” As Christ-followers, we are called to go out to seek and save those who feel lost in life to show them to the Light of Jesus. We are so excited to welcome our new Lead Pastor, Dr. Josh Laxton, as he preaches his very first sermon at Northland.

Jesus' Temptation in the Desert | John Cortines

One aspect of our journey is to notice Jesus’ own journey to the cross and how He relied upon the Holy Spirit for endurance. Since Luke wrote both a Gospel and the book of Acts, we focus on Jesus’ experience of spiritual persecution as recorded in Luke when possible. 
 
How does the Spirit lead and guide us as we endure temptation? What kind of help do we need from Him when we face such times? How can we cultivate a relationship with the Spirit as our Helper during times when we are tempted? How can we experience His presence when we go through wilderness experiences?

The early church was bold in showing their selflessness with one another, but persecution arose from within due to the sneakiness, ulterior motives, and lying of Ananias and Sapphira. The Spirit was quick and deadly with a response. This shows the importance of purity in heart and action, especially when we are vulnerable enough to give our all to a church. What sin needs to be uprooted from within our community? Is our willingness to be vulnerable and give our all worth it?
