In last week’s Gospel we were witness to a confrontation between Jesus and the devil and his legions of demons, and we learned again how Satan uses deception and trickery to deceive and lead people, even many Christians, astray from the true teachings of Jesus Christ, into the realm of man-made myths and false doctrine. 
 
In today’s text we’ll still see Satan at work in our lives, but in a different way, a way that will Jesus describe for us in three brief encounters with would-be disciples that He is calling into His service.
