Our Gospel lesson for today begins immediately where we left off last week with Jesus and His disciples still in the Upper Room on Holy Thursday, shortly before His betrayal, arrest, and crucifixion.

Our Gospel lesson for today begins immediately where we left off last week with Jesus and His disciples still in the Upper Room on Holy Thursday, shortly before His betrayal, arrest, and crucifixion.

In this important teaching Jesus had lots to say to these men as He warned them about the sufferings, persecution, and sorrow that they will face as His Apostles as they begin building the Church of Christ.

In last week’s Gospel, Jesus taught His disciples and us what is required to build up the Christian church on earth. 
 
In essence, He told us it’s the awesome power of God’s Word with its supernatural ability given by His Spirit, that catches souls for the kingdom; Not gimmicks, not human works or cunning, not a new and trendy environment, but the Word of God. 
 
And Jesus said when His Word is taught and shared in its truth and purity, it has the power to do great things for God! 
 
Because this entire concept is so important for every Christian to know, I want to build upon the importance of that message, again today.

In last week’s Gospel, Jesus taught His disciples and us what is required to build up the Christian church on earth.
 
In essence, He told us it’s the awesome power of God’s Word with its supernatural ability given by His Spirit, that catches souls for the kingdom; Not gimmicks, not human works or cunning, not a new and trendy environment, but the Word of God.

And Jesus said when His Word is taught and shared in its truth and purity, it has the power to do great things for God! 

Because this entire concept is so important for every Christian to know, I want to build upon the importance of that message, again today.

Our Gospel for today continues in St. Luke and begins immediately where we left off last week with Jesus’ departure from His hometown of Nazareth. The Bible tells us that from Nazareth, Jesus traveled to Capernaum, there as He was teaching in the synagogue, He is confronted by a man with an unclean spirit.
