God created us, He created sex, and it started out good. So, what went wrong? We want to help undo some of the lies we’ve heard from culture—and the church—to see what it really looks like to be discipled by Jesus when it comes to our sexuality. 
Sex is one of the first activities humans engaged in and is widely talked about in pop culture, but really talking about sex can feel so awkward, especially in the church. And there’s a long history there. God created us and sex, and it was good. So, what happened? Sexuality is in almost every piece of content that we consume, and as our flippant intake increases, the value, depth, and beauty actually decrease. We want to help undo some of the lies we’ve heard from culture—and the church—to see what it really looks like to be discipled by Jesus when it comes to our sexuality. Being a disciple of Jesus should transform what we do with our bodies and how we view sexuality.

The Place Spiritual Breakthroughs Happen

In a world where we want to have an immediate impact – where we want to change the world with a post – Jesus calls us to do the hard work of planting the Gospel in our hearts. We want God to do great things through us – but He almost always wants to do something in you first. Maybe the best way to be a person of impact is not to say, God, what do you want to do through me? But to say God, what do you want to do in me? In the Gospel of Mark, we read that “the whole town gathered at the door” where Jesus was staying. Everyone needed Him to do something for them. The demands of the people around Him were loud, and that noise could have easily determined how he would spend his day. But because Jesus has spent time alone with God, he stays reminded why He has come. He gets refocused on His purpose. He knows what God wants to do through Him because He starts the day by giving attention to God’s work in Him.

Sitting Target | Un-Triggered | Kyle Idleman

Job’s main complaint against God is not His control, or His care—His main complaint is if God is truly aware of what Job is going through. Over and over again, Job makes his case before God. Job pours out his heart to God, wanting assurance that God really knows what is happening in his life. And what we find as Job does this is something that should bring us comfort when we’re hurting—that God is a Father who knows what we’re going through, who knows what we’re facing, and who has never left us in it all. Job realizes this in this final chapter as he says to God in 42:3 (NLT), “You asked, ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?’ It is I—and I was talking about things I knew nothing about, things far too wonderful for me.” And that word ‘wonderful,’ it’s a word that you don’t expect to be used in the middle of such pain and suffering. But when Job realizes what God knows is when he truly sees God.

Jesus, our King, has repurposed death into a victorious rally cry that will echo throughout eternity. The curse of sin has no claim over us, as the cross of Christ has paid the price. Death’s sting has no hold on us—the tomb is empty. As followers of the way of Jesus, our aim is heaven, our hope is tethered to this story of beginnings, and our hands are engaged in reversing the curse. Through Jesus, everything sad is coming untrue.
