Song # 1694 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. The prophet Hosea preached in the northern kingdom of Israel during troubled times before the fall of Samaria in 721 BC. We read in Hosea that God will bring devastation on the wicked and they will be destroyed when that day arrives. Although his message was written some 2,700 years ago, it is still very relevant to us today. 
Sow for yourselves righteousness, and reap the fruit of unfailing love, for it is time to seek the Lord and shower righteousness on you (Hosea 10:12). But you have planted wickedness and you have reaped evil. You have eaten the fruit of deception, and depended on your own strength (Hosea 10:13). Because your wickedness is great, when that day dawns, wickedness will be completely destroyed (Hosea 10:15). The high places of wickedness will be destroyed (Hosea 10:8). And when I please, I will punish them (Hosea 10:10). My people are determined to turn from me. Even if they call to the Most High, He will by no means exalt them (Hosea 11:7). For I am God, and not man. The Holy One among you. I will not come in wrath (Hosea 11:9). They will follow the Lord (Hosea 11:10). 
Thought for today: now is the time to invest in heaven. 
Thought for the future: there’s only one way to heaven, but that’s all we need. Where will you spend your eternity?

The Lord will be King over the whole earth. On that day there will be one Lord, and His Name the only Name (Zechariah 14:9). Jerusalem will be raised up and remain in its place (Zechariah 14:10). It will be inhabited, never again to be destroyed. Jerusalem will be secure (Zechariah 14:11). The Lord will strike all nations that fought against Jerusalem (Zechariah 14:12). On that day men will be stricken by the Lord (Zechariah 14:13). Survivors from all the nations that have attacked Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship the King, the Lord Almighty, and to celebrate the Feast of the Tabernacles (Zechariah 14:16). Every pot in Jerusalem and Judah will be holy to the Lord Almighty (Zechariah 14:21). 
Thought for today: in good times and bad, God is our greatest asset. 
Thought for tomorrow: the more we look to heaven, the less we need on earth. Where will you spend your eternity?

In that day men will look to their Maker and turn their eyes to the Holy One of Israel (Isaiah 17:7). They will not look to the altars, the work of their hands, and they will have no regard for what their fingers have made (Isaiah 17:8). In that day their strong cities will be like places abandoned to thickets and undergrowth. And all will be desolation (Isaiah 17:9). You have forgotten God your Saviour, you have not remembered the Rock, your Fortress. Though you set out the finest plants and plant imported vines (Isaiah 17:10), the harvest will be as nothing (Isaiah 17:11). Oh, the raging of many nations, they rage like the raging sea. Oh, the raging of the peoples, they roar like the roaring of great waters (Isaiah 17:12). Although the peoples roar like the roar of surging waters, when He rebukes them they flee far away, driven before the wind like chaff on the hills, like tumble-weed before a gale (Isaiah 17:13). In the evening, sudden terror. Before the morning, they are gone. This is the portion of those who loot us, the lot of those who plunder us (Isaiah 17:14). 
Thought for today: when God forgives, He restores the soul. 
Thought for the future: no matter where you turn in life, you can always turn to God. Where will you spend your eternity?

The Book of Daniel tells us in chapter 4 that King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream about a large tree that touched the sky (See Song #1215- Nebuchadnezzar's Dream). Daniel interprets the dream and warns the king that he will lose his royal authority and become an animal, eating grass like cattle, for seven times until he acknowledges the Most High is ruler over all people. 
A year after David interpreted the dream, King Nebuchadnezzar was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon (Daniel 4:29). He said "Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?" (Daniel 4:30). The words were still on his lips when a voice came from heaven "This what is decreed for you, King Nebuchadnezzar, your royal authority has been taken from you" (Daniel 4:31). "You will be driven away from people and will live with the wild animals. You will eat grass like cattle. Seven times will pass by for you until you acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and gives them to anyone He wishes" (Daniel 4:32). Immediately, he was driven away from people and ate grass like cattle. His body was drenched with the dew of heaven until his hair grew like the feathers of an eagle and his nails like the claws of a bird (Daniel 4:33). At the end of that time, Nebuchadnezzar raised his eyes towards heaven, and his sanity was restored. He then praised the Most High, honouring and glorifying Him who lives for ever (Daniel 4:34). At the same time that his sanity was restored, his honour and splendour returned to him. His advisers and nobles sought him out and he was restored to his throne, and became greater than before (Daniel 4:36). Nebuchadnezzar praised and exalted and glorified the King of Heaven, because everything He does is right and all His ways are just. And those who walk in pride He is able to humble (Daniel 4:37). 
Thought for today: we were created to glorify God. 
Thought for the future: the measure of a man is not by his height, but by his heart. Where will you spend your eternity?

#1216- Nebuchadnezzar's Dream Fulfilled - (Daniel 4:29-37)

Song # 1215 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. The Book of Daniel tells us in chapter 4 that King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream about a large tree that touched the sky. 
King Nebuchadnezzar was at home in his palace, and had a dream that made him afraid (Daniel 4:4). The dream was of an enormous tree in the middle of the land (Daniel 4:10). The tree grew large and strong and its tops touched the sky, it was visible to the ends of the earth (Daniel 4:11). Its leaves were beautiful, its fruit abundant, and on it was food for all (Daniel 4:12). In his visions the king saw a messenger, a holy one, coming down from heaven (Daniel 4:13). The messenger said "Cut down the tree and trim off its branches, strip off its leaves and scatter its fruit" (Daniel 4:14). "But let the stump remain in the ground, in the grass of the field" (Daniel 4:15). The king sought all his wise men, but no-one could interpret the dream (Daniel 4:6-7). The king then asked Daniel to interpret the dream (Daniel 4:18). Daniel said "The tree you saw oh king, you are that tree" (Daniel 4:20-22). The interpretation of the messengers words is this is a decree of the Most High against you" (Daniel 4:24). "You will be driven away from people and will live with the wild animals, you will eat grass like cattle and be drenched with the dew of heaven. Seven times will pass by for you until you acknowledge the Most High is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and gives them to anyone He wishes" (Daniel 4:25). "The command to leave the stump of the tree means that your kingdom will be restored to you when you acknowledge that heaven rules" (Daniel 4:26). "Renounce your sins by doing what is right, and your wickedness by being kind to the oppressed" (Daniel 4:27).

#1215- Nebuchadnezzar&#39;s Tree - (Daniel 4:4-27)

Song # 1214 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. The Book of Daniel tells us that while King Belshazzar was giving a great banquet for his nobles, a human hand appeared and wrote on the wall. 
King Belshazzar gave a great banquet for a thousand of his nobles (Daniel 5:1). He gave orders to bring in the gold and silver goblets that his father, Nebuchadnezzar, had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, so they could drink from them (Daniel 5:2-3). As they drank the wine, they praised the gods of gold and silver, of bronze, iron, wood and stone (Daniel 5:4). Suddenly the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the wall. The king watched the hand as it wrote (Daniel 5:5). His face turned pale and he was so frightened that his knees knocked together and his legs gave way (Daniel 5:6). The king called all his advisers and said "Whoever reads this writing and tells me what it means, will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom (Daniel 5:7). The king's wise men could not read the writing or tell the king what it meant (Daniel 5:8). King Belshazzar became even more terrified, and his nobles were baffled (Daniel 5:9). The queen came into the banquet hall and said "Don't be alarmed" (Daniel 5:10). "There is a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the holy gods in him. In the time of your father, he was found to have insight and intelligence and wisdom like that of the gods" (Daniel 5:11). "This man Daniel, was found to have the ability to interpret dreams. Call for Daniel, and he will tell you what the writing means" (Daniel 5:12). So Daniel was brought before the king and the king said (Daniel 5:13), "I have heard that you are able to give interpretations and to solve difficult problems. If you can read this writing and tell me what it means, you will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom" (Daniel 5:16). Daniel said "I will read the writing for the king and tell him what it means" (Daniel 5:17). Daniel explained "The Most High God gave your father Nebuchadnezzar sovereignty and greatness and glory and splendour" (Daniel 5:18). "But when his heart became arrogant and hardened with pride, he was deposed from his royal throne and stripped of his glory" (Daniel 5:20). He was driven away from people and given the mind of an animal" (Daniel 5:21). "But you, his son, oh Belshazzar, have not humbled yourself, though you knew all this" (Daniel 5:22). "You did not honour the God who holds in His hand your life and all your ways" (Daniel 5:23). "Therefore He sent the hand that wrote the inscription" (Daniel 5:24). "This is what the words mean: 
Mene -- God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it to an end (Daniel 5:26). 
Tekel -- You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting (Daniel 5:27). 
Peres -- Your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians" (Daniel 5:28). 
That very night Belshazzar, king of the Babylonians was slain (Daniel 5:30), and Darius the Mede took over the kingdom (Daniel 5:31).

#1207- Song Of Moses And Miriam - (Exodus 15:1-18)

Song # 1071 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. The Book of Judges tells us that The Angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon and said "The Lord is with you, mighty warrior" (Judges 6:12). Chapter 7 tells us how Gideon defeated the Midianites with the Lord's help. 
Gideon and all his men camped at the spring of Harod. The camp of Midian was north of them in the valley near the hill of Moreh (Judges 7:1). The Lord said to Gideon "You have too many men for me to deliver Midian into their hands. In order that Israel may not boast against me that their own strength has saved her" (Judges 7:2), "announce now to the people 'Anyone who trembles with fear may turn back and leave Mount Gilead.'" So twenty two thousand men left, while ten thousand remained (Judges 7:3). But the Lord said to Gideon "There are still too many men. Take them down to the water, and I will sift them out for you there (Judges 7:4). So Gideon took the men down to the water. There the Lord told him "Separate those who lap the water with their tongues like a dog from those who kneel to drink" (Judges 7:5). Three hundred men lapped with their hands to their mouths. All the rest got down on their knees to drink (Judges 7:6). The Lord said to Gideon "With the three hundred men that lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hands. Let all the other men go, each to his own place" (Judges 7:7). 
Dividing the three hundred men into three companies, Gideon placed trumpets and empty jars in the hands of all of them, with torches inside (Judges 7:16). "Watch me" he told them. Follow my lead. When I get to the edge of the camp, do exactly as I do" (Judges 7:17). Gideon and the hundred men with him reached the edge of the camp. They blew their trumpets and broke the jars that were in their hands (Judges 7:19). They shouted "A sword for the Lord and Gideon!" (Judges 7:20). When the three hundred trumpets sounded, the Lord caused the men throughout the Midianite camp to turn on each other with their swords and the Midianite army fled (Judges 7:22). 
Thought for today: our salvation is secure, because God's word is true.

#1071- Gideon Defeats The Midianites - (Judges 7:1-22)

Song # 939 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. From Ezekiel, chapter 37, comes the story of the Spirit of the Lord leading Ezekiel into a valley of dry bones, and bringing them back to life. 
Ezekiel says "He asked me 'Son of Man, can these bones live?' " And Ezekiel replied "Oh Sovereign Lord, you alone know" (Ezekiel 37:3). Then Ezekiel was told to say "Prophesy to these bones and say to them 'Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!' " (Ezekiel 37:4). "This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones, 'I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life.' " (Ezekiel 37:5). "I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin, I will put breath in you, and you will come to life, Then you will know that I am the Lord" (Ezekiel 37:6). And as Ezekiel was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone (Ezekiel 37:7). He saw tendons and flesh appear on them and skin cover them, but there was no breath in them (Ezekiel 37:8). Then Ezekiel was told to say "This is what the Sovereign Lord says 'Come from the four winds, oh breath, and breathe into these slain, that they may live' " (Ezekiel 37:9). Ezekiel prophesied as commanded by the Lord, and breath entered them, they came to life and stood on their feet -- a vast army (Ezekiel 37:10). Then the Lord said "Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They say 'Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone, we are cut off' " (Ezekiel 37:11). "Therefore prophesy and say to them 'This is what the Sovereign Lord says, oh my people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them, I will bring you back to the land of Israel' " (Ezekiel 37:12). "I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken" (Ezekiel 37:14). 
Thought for today: God is the living word, while the Bible is His written word.
