In 1 John we read John’s first letter which he wrote to encourage all readers to live in fellowship with God, and His Son, Jesus Christ. John clearly states that Jesus Christ was a real human being, and all who believe in Him, and love God, must also love one another. 
How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him (1 John 3:1). Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when He appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is (1 John 3:2). Everyone who has this hope in Him, purifies himself, just as He is pure (1 John 3:3). Everyone who sins breaks the law, in fact, sin is lawlessness (1 John 3:4). But you know that He appeared so that He might take away our sins. And in Him is no sin (1 John 3:5). No-one who lives in Him keeps on sinning. No-one who continues to sin has either seen Him or known Him (1 John 3:6). Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is right is righteous, just as He is righteous (1 John 3:7). He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work (1 John 3:8). No-one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him, he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God (1 John 3:9). This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God, nor is anyone who does not love his brother (1 John 3:10). 
Thought for today: let God’s word fill your mind, rule your heart, and lead your way. 
Thought for the future: you can’t be a part-time Christian, because there is no part-time heaven. Where will you spend your eternity?

#1026.1- Children Of God - (1 John 3:1-10)

Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the first-fruits of those who have fallen asleep (1 Corinthians 15:20). For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man (1 Corinthians 15:21). For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive (1 Corinthians 15:22). But each in his own turn, Christ, the first-fruits, then, when He comes, those who belong to Him (1 Corinthians 15:23). Then the end will come, when He hands over the kingdom to God the Father after He has destroyed all dominion, authority and power (1 Corinthians 15:24). For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet (1 Corinthians 15:25). The last enemy to be destroyed is death (1 Corinthians 15:26). For He “has put everything under His feet” -Psalm 8:6. Now when it says that “everything” has been put under Him, it is clear that this does not include God Himself, who put everything under Christ (1 Corinthians 15:27). When He has done this, then the Son Himself will be made subject to God, who put everything under Him, so that God may be all in all (1 Corinthians 15:28). 
Thought for today: we all must face Jesus in time. Will He be your Saviour? Or will He be your Judge? 
Thought for the future: there’s only one way to heaven. But that’s all we need. Where will you spend your eternity?

When Jesus arrived at the other side of the lake, in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met Him. They were so violent that no-one could pass that way (Matthew 8:28). “What do you want with us, Son of God?” they shouted. “Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?” (Matthew 8:29). Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding (Matthew 8:30). The demons begged Jesus “If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs” (Matthew 8:31). Jesus said to them “Go!” So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water (Matthew 8:32). Those tending the pigs ran off, went into town and reported all this, including what had happened to the demon- possessed men (Matthew 8:33). Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw Him, they pleaded with Him to leave their region (Matthew 8:34). 
Thought for today: there is only one way to heaven. Do you know the way? 
Thought for the future: Jesus asks us to join Him for life. Where will you spend your eternity?

#1013.1- Two Demon Possessed Men - (Matthew 8:28-34)

In the Book of Numbers in chapter 20, we read that Moses leads the Israelites out of Egypt to a place called Kadesh in the Desert of Zin. Miriam died and was buried there (Numbers 20:1). Now there is no water for the community, and the people gathered in opposition to Moses and Aaron (Numbers 20:2). They quarrelled with Moses and said “If only we had died when our brothers fell dead before the Lord!” (Numbers 20:3). “Why did you bring the Lord’s community into this desert, that we and our livestock should die here?” (Numbers 20:4). “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to this terrible place? It has no grain or figs, grapevines or pomegranates. And there is no water to drink!” (Numbers 20:5). Moses and Aaron went from the assembly to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and fell face down, and the glory of the Lord appeared to them (Numbers 20:6). The Lord said to Moses (Numbers 20:7), “Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water. You will bring water out of the rock for the community so that they and their livestock can drink” (Numbers 20:8). So Moses took the staff from the Lord’s presence, just as He commanded him (Numbers 20:9). He and Aaron gathered the assembly together in front of the rock, and Moses said to them “Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?” (Numbers 20:10). Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank (Numbers 20:11). But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron “Because you did not trust in me enough to honour me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them” (Numbers 20:12). These were the waters of Meribah (means quarrelling), where the Israelites quarrelled with the Lord and where He showed Himself Holy among them (Numbers 20:13). 
Thought for today: you have all you need in life, when you have God in your life. 
Thought for the future: Trust in God today and prepare for your tomorrow. Where will you spend your eternity?

#940.1- Water From The Rock - (Numbers 20:1-13)

The teachers of the law and the chief priests were looking for a way to have Jesus arrested (Luke 20:19). Keeping a close watch on Jesus, they sent spies, who pretended to be honest. They hoped to catch Jesus in something He said so that they might hand Him over to the power and authority of the governor (Luke 20:20). So the spies questioned Jesus “Teacher, we know that you speak and teach what is right, and that you do not show partiality but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth” (Luke 20:21). “Is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?” (Luke 20:22). Jesus saw through their deceitfulness and said to them (Luke 20:23), “Show me a denarius. Whose portrait and inscription are on it?” (Luke 20:24). “Caesar’s” they replied. Then Jesus said to them “Then give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s” (Luke 20:25). They were unable to trap Jesus in what He had said there in public. And astonished by His answer, they became silent (Luke 20:26). 
Thought for today: when you know what is truth, you will then know what is false.

After Jesus and His disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma tax came to Peter and asked “Doesn’t your teacher pay the temple tax?” (Matthew 17:24). “Yes, He does” he replied. When Peter came into the house, Jesus was the first to speak. “What do you think, Simon?” He asked. “From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes- from their own sons or from others?” (Matthew 17:25). “From others” Peter answered. “Then the sons are exempt” Jesus said to him (Matthew 17:26). “But so that we may not offend them, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch, open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours” (Matthew 17:27). 
Thought for today: God’s hand is in everything, so leave everything in God’s hands.

#963.1- The Temple Tax - (Matthew 17:24-27)

Song # 942.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in the Book of Numbers in chapter 12 that Miriam and Aaron oppose Moses. This Book tells of people who were often discouraged and afraid in the face of hardship, and who rebelled against God and against Moses. 
Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite (Numbers 12:1). “Has the Lord spoken only through Moses?” they asked. “Hasn’t He also spoken through us?” And the Lord heard this (Numbers 12:2). At once the Lord said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam “Come out to the Tent of Meeting, all three of you.” So the three of them came out (Numbers 12:4).Then the Lord came down in a pillar of cloud, He stood at the entrance to the Tent and summoned Aaron and Miriam. When both of them stepped forward (Numbers 12:5), He said “Listen to my words: When a prophet of the Lord is among you, I reveal myself to him in visions, I speak to him in dreams” (Numbers 12:6). “But this is not true of my servant Moses, he is faithful in all my house” (Numbers 12:7). “With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles, he sees the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?” (Numbers 12:8). The anger of the Lord burned against them (Numbers 12:9). When the cloud lifted from above the Tent, there stood Miriam - leprous, like snow. Aaron turned towards her and saw that she had leprosy (Numbers 12:10), and he said to Moses “Please, my lord, do not hold against us the sin we have so foolishly committed” (Numbers 12:11). So Moses cried out to the Lord “Oh God, please heal her!” (Numbers 12:13). The Lord replied to Moses “If her father had spat in her face, would she not have been in disgrace for seven days? Confine her outside the camp for seven days, after that she can be brought back” (Numbers 12:14). So Miriam was confined outside the camp for seven days, and the people did not move on till she was brought back (Numbers 12:15). After that, the people left Hazeroth and encamped in the Desert of Paran (Numbers 12:16). 
Thought for today: no-one is more secure than those in God’s hands. 
Thought for the future: trust in God today and secure your future with Him. Where will you spend your eternity?

#942.1- Miriam And Aaron Oppose Moses - (Numbers 12:1-16)

Song # 941.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of Numbers we read in chapter 9 about the cloud that hovered above the Tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, day and night. 
On the day the Tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, was set up, the cloud covered it. From evening till morning the cloud above the Tabernacle looked like fire (Numbers 9:15). That is how it continued to be, the cloud covered it, and at night it looked like fire (Numbers 9:16). Whenever the cloud lifted from above the Tent, the Israelites set out. Wherever the cloud settled, the Israelites encamped (Numbers 9:17). At the Lord’s command the Israelites set out, and at His command they encamped. As long as the cloud stayed over the Tabernacle, they remained in camp (Numbers 9:18). When the cloud remained over the Tabernacle a long time, the Israelites obeyed the Lord’s order and did not set out (Numbers 9:19). Sometimes the cloud was over the Tabernacle only a few days. At the Lord’s command they would encamp, and then at His command they would set out (Numbers 9:20). Sometimes the cloud stayed only from evening till morning, and when it lifted in the morning, they set out. Whether by day or night, whenever the cloud lifted, they set out (Numbers 9:21). Whether the cloud stayed over the Tabernacle for two days or a month or a year, the Israelites would remain in camp and not set out. But when it lifted, they would set out (Numbers 9:22). At the Lord’s command they encamped, and at the Lord’s command they set out. They obeyed the Lord’s order, in accordance with his command through Moses (Numbers 9:23). 
Thought for today: no-one is more secure than those on God’s hands. 
Thought for the future: a newspaper informs while the Bible transforms. Where will you spend your eternity?

#941.1- The Cloud Above The Tabernacle - (Numbers 9:15-23)

In the Book of Matthew we read in chapter 5 that Jesus tells us to share with one another, not just with brothers, but with our neighbors as well, and that we should love our enemies. But as humans, we can find these commands extremely difficult to follow. How many of us truly love our neighbors and would give freely to strangers? And how many of us could forgive our enemies for their persecution of us? 
An Eye For An Eye - 
when Jesus was teaching He said: “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth’ ” (Matthew 5:38). “But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also” (Matthew 5:39). “And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well” (Matthew 5:40). “If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles” (Matthew 5:41). “Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you” (Matthew 5:42). 
Love For Enemies – 
Jesus also said, “You have heard it said ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy’” (Matthew 5:43). “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matthew 5:44), “that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and unrighteous” (Matthew 5:45). “If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even tax collectors doing that?” (Matthew 5:46). “And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more for others? Do not even pagans do that?” (Matthew 5:47). “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Matthew 5:48). 
Thought for today: the richest people in the world are those who invest in heaven. 
Thought for the future: no-one is more secure than those in God's hands. Where will you spend your eternity?

#971.1- An Eye For An Eye - (Matthew 5:38-48)

Song # 969.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of John we read in chapter 20 that Mary Magdalene went to the tomb where Jesus had been buried, to find the stone had been rolled away and the tomb was empty. Jesus had risen to life as He had promised. 
Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance (John 20:1). So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said: “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put Him!” (John 20:2). So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb (John 20:3). Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first (John 20:4). He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but he did not go in (John 20:5). Then Simon Peter, who was behind him, arrived and went into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there (John 20:6), as well as the burial cloth that had been around Jesus’ head. The cloth was folded up by itself, separate from the linen (John 20:7). Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed (John 20:8). Though they still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead (John 20:9). 
Thought for today: Jesus died, and rose to life again defeating death, so we could share everlasting life with Him. 
Thought for the future: Jesus prepares a place for us, and prepares us for that place. Where will you spend eternity?

Moses was told that God was going to rescue the Israelite people from the hand of the Egyptians, and through Moses, guide them to the land of milk and honey. 
Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the desert and came to Horeb, the mountain of God (Exodus 3:1). There the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up (Exodus 3:2). “Do not come any closer” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground” (Exodus 3:5). Then the Lord said “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob” (Exodus 3:6). The Lord said “I have seen the misery of my people in Egypt” (Exodus 3:7). “So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land flowing with milk and honey” (Exodus 3:8). 
Then God said to Moses “The elders of Israel will listen to you, go to the king of Egypt and say ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. Let us take a three day journey into the desert to offer sacrifices to the Lord our God’” (Exodus 3:18). Then God said “But I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go unless a mighty hand compels him” (Exodus 3:19). “So I will stretch out my hand and strike the Egyptians with all the wonders that I will perform among them. After that, he will let you go” (Exodus 3:20). (God was referring to the ten plagues he would set upon Egypt to show that He alone is Almighty God). “And I will make the Egyptians favourably disposed towards this people, so that when you leave you will not go empty-handed” (Exodus 3:21). “Every woman is to ask her neighbor and any woman living in her house for articles of silver and gold and for clothing, which you will put on your sons and daughters. And so you will plunder the Egyptians” (Exodus 3:22).

All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and that day that is coming will set them on fire” says the Lord Almighty. “Not a tree or a branch will be left to them” (Malachi 4:1). “But for you who revere my name, the sun (not Son) of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. And you will go out and leap like calves released from the stall” (Malachi 4:2). “Then you will trample down the wicked, they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day when I do these things” says the Lord Almighty (Malachi 4:3). “Remember the law of my servant Moses, the decrees and laws I gave him at Horeb for all Israel” (Malachi 4:4). “See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes” (Malachi 4:5). “He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, or else I will come and strike the land with a curse” (Malachi 4:6).

This comes from a letter John wrote to encourage readers to live in fellowship with God, and with His Son Jesus Christ, and to warn them against following false teaching. 
This is the message you heard from the beginning, we should love one another (1 John 3:11). Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder his brother? Because his own actions were evil and his brother's were righteous (1 John 3:12). Do not be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you (1 John 3:13). We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. Anyone who does not love remains in death (1 John 3:14). Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life in him (1 John 3:15). This is how we know what love is, Jesus Christ laid down His life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers (1 John 3:16). If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? (1 John 3:17). Let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth (1 John 3:18). This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in His presence (1 John 3:19), whenever our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and He knows everything (1 John 3:20). If our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God (1 John 3:21), and receive from Him anything we ask, because we obey His commands and do what pleases Him (1 John 3:22). And this is His command, to believe in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as He commanded us (1 John 3:23). Those who obey His commands live in Him, and He in them. And this is how we know that He lives in us, we know it by the Spirit He gave us (1 John 3:24). 
Thought for today: Jesus prepares a place for us in heaven, and prepares us for that heavenly place. 
Thought for the future: we share God's truth so that others may profit, not for us to prosper. Where will you spend your eternity?

When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the Testimony in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord (Exodus 34:29). When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him (Exodus 34:30). But Moses called to them, so Aaron and all the leaders of the community came back to him, and he spoke to them (Exodus 34:31). Afterwards all the Israelites came near him. And he gave them all the commands the Lord had given him on Mount Sinai (Exodus 34:32). When Moses finished speaking to them, he put a veil over his face (Exodus 34:33). But whenever he entered the Lord’s presence to speak with Him, he removed the veil until he came out. And when he came out and told the Israelites what had been commanded (Exodus 34:34), they saw that his face was radiant.
