Song # 1058.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in the Book of Exodus in chapter 12 of the “Exodus” when the Israelite people were finally released by Pharaoh, to leave Egypt to worship God. This occurred after God had set upon Egypt ten plagues so the people would know that He alone is Lord. See the list below. 
During the night of the plague on the firstborn (See Song # 1045.1- The Passover), Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said “Up! Leave my people, you and the Israelites! Go, worship the Lord as you have requested” (Exodus 12:31). “Take your flocks and herds, as you have said, and go. And also bless me” (Exodus 12:32). The Egyptians urged the people to hurry and leave the country. “For otherwise” they said “we will all die!” (Exodus 12:33). So the people took their dough before the yeast was added, and carried it on their shoulders in kneading troughs wrapped in clothing (Exodus 12:34). The Israelites did as Moses instructed and asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold and for clothing (Exodus 12:35). The Lord had made the Egyptians favourably disposed towards the people, and they gave them what they asked for, so they plundered the Egyptians (Exodus 12:36). The Israelites journeyed from Rameses to Succoth. There were about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides women and children (Exodus 12:37). Many other people went up with them, as well as large droves of livestock, both flocks and herds (Exodus 12:38). With the dough they had brought from Egypt, they baked cakes of unleavened bread. The dough was without yeast because they had been driven out of Egypt and did not have time to prepare food for themselves (Exodus 12:39). 
Now the length of time the Israelite people lived in Egypt was 430 years (Exodus 12:40). At the end of the 430 years, to the very day, all the Lord’s divisions left Egypt (Exodus 12:41). Because the Lord kept vigil that night to bring them out of Egypt, on this night all the Israelites are to keep vigil to honour the Lord for generations to come (Exodus 12:42). 
Thought for today: thank God for what you have, and trust God for what you need. 
Thought for the future: no-one is more secure than those in God’s hands. Where will you spend your eternity?

Song # 1055.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in the Book of Exodus that God created a number of plagues throughout Egypt - see the list below. In chapter 10 we read about the ninth plague brought upon Egypt by God, this time being the plague of darkness, darkness that could be felt throughout Egypt, lasting for three days. Yet the nearby Israelite homes had lights where they lived. The Plague of darkness follows earlier plagues of blood, frogs, gnats, flies, livestock, boils, hail and locusts. 
After the plague of locusts devoured what remained from the earlier plague of hail (Exodus 10:15), the Lord said to Moses “Stretch out your hand towards the sky so that darkness will spread over Egypt - darkness that can be felt” (Exodus 10:21). So Moses stretched out his hand towards the sky, and total darkness covered all Egypt for three days (Exodus 10:22). No-one could see anyone else or leave his place for three days. Yet all the Israelites had light in the places where they lived (Exodus 10:23). 
Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and said “Go, worship the Lord. Even your women and children may go with you; only leave your flocks and herds behind” (Exodus 10:24). But Moses said “You must allow us to have sacrifices and burnt offerings to present to the Lord our God” (Exodus 10:25). “Our livestock too must go with us, not a hoof is to be left behind. We have to use some of them in worshipping the Lord our God, and until we get there we will not know what we are to use to worship the Lord” (Exodus 10:26). 
But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he was not willing to let them go (Exodus 10:27). Pharaoh said to Moses “Get out of my sight! Make sure you do not appear before me again! The day you see my face you will die” (Exodus 10:28). “Just as you say” Moses replied, “I will never appear before you again” (Exodus 10:29). 
Thought for today: let God’s word fill your mind, rule your heart, and lead your way. 
Thought for the future: on your own, life is a hopeless end, but with God, life is an endless hope. Where will you spend your eternity?

In chapter 9, we learn that the sixth plague brought upon Egypt by God was a plague of boils. This occurred after the plague of blood, the plague of frogs, the plague of gnats, the plague of flies and the plague on livestock. God brought the sixth plague, the plague of boils, on Egypt after Pharaoh continued to refuse to let the Hebrew people leave Egypt. 
After the plague on livestock (Exodus 9:6), the Lord said to Moses and Aaron “Take handfuls of soot from a furnace and have Moses toss it in the air in the presence of Pharaoh” (Exodus 9:8). “It will become fine dust over the whole land of Egypt, and festering boils will break out on men and animals throughout the land” (Exodus 9:9). So they took soot from a furnace and stood before Pharaoh. Moses tossed it into the air, and festering boils broke out on men and animals (Exodus 9:10). The magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils that were on them and on all Egyptians (Exodus 9:11). But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart and he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said to Moses (Exodus 9:12) 
Thought for today: when you know the truth, then you will know what is false. 
Thought for the future: do you really think the world just happened, without God? Where will you spend your eternity?

In Exodus chapter 9, we learn that the fifth plague brought upon Egypt by God was a plague on livestock, after Pharaoh once again refused to let the Hebrew people leave Egypt. This occurred after the plague of blood, the plague of frogs, the plague of gnats and the plague of flies. 
The Lord said to Moses “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews says: “Let my people go so that they may worship me’ ” (Exodus 9:1). “If you refuse to let them go and continue to hold them back” (Exodus 9:2), “the hand of the Lord will bring a terrible plague on your livestock in the field - on your horses and donkeys and camels and on your cattle and sheep and goats” (Exodus 9:3). “But the Lord will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and that of Egypt, so that no animal belonging to the Israelites will die” (Exodus 9:4). The Lord set a time and said “Tomorrow the Lord will do this in the land” (Exodus 9:5). And the next day the Lord did it. All the livestock of the Egyptians died, but not one animal belonging to the Israelites died (Exodus 9:6). Pharaoh sent men to investigate and found that not even one of the animals of the Israelites had died. Yet his heart was unyielding and he would not let the people go (Exodus 9:7). 
Thought for today: no-one is more secure than those in God’s hands. 
Thought for the future: God is forever, and so is heaven. It will be heaven to be with Him forever. Where will you spend your eternity?

After the plague of frogs, Pharaoh once again refused to let the Hebrews leave Egypt (Exodus 8:14-15). Then the Lord told Moses “Tell Aaron ‘Stretch out your staff and strike the dust on the ground’ and throughout the land of Egypt the dust will become gnats” (Exodus 8:16). They did this, and when Aaron stretched out his hand with the staff and struck the dust of the ground, gnats came upon men and animals. All the dust throughout the land of Egypt became gnats (Exodus 8:17). But when Pharaoh’s magicians tried to produce gnats by their secret arts, they could not. And the gnats were on men and animals (Exodus 8:18). The magicians said to Pharaoh “This is the finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart was hard and he would not listen, just as the Lord had said (Exodus 8:19). 
Thought for today: all things are possible for God. 
Thought for the future: God takes time to speak through His living word, be sure to make time to listen. Where will you spend your eternity?

Song # 1047.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in the Book of Exodus in chapter 7, of the plague of blood set upon Egypt by God, when Pharaoh refused to let the Hebrews leave his land. God created a number of plagues throughout Egypt including blood - see below. 
The Lord said to Moses “Pharaoh’s heart is unyielding, he refuses to let the people go” (Exodus 7:14). “Go to Pharaoh in the morning as he goes out to the water. Wait on the bank of the Nile to meet him, and take in your hand the staff that was changed into a snake” (Exodus 7:15). “Then say to him ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to say to you: Let my people go, so that they may worship me in the desert. But until now you have not listened’” (Exodus 7:16). “This is what the Lord says: By this you will know that I am the Lord: With the staff that is in my hand I will strike the water of the Nile, and it will be changed into blood” (Exodus 7:17). “The fish in the Nile will die, and the river will stink; the Egyptians will not be able to drink its water’ ” (Exodus 7:18). 
The Lord said to Moses “Tell Aaron, ‘Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt - over the streams and canals, over the ponds and all the reservoirs - and they will turn to blood. Blood will be everywhere in Egypt, even in the wooden buckets and stone jars” (Exodus 7:19). Moses and Aaron did just as the Lord had commanded. He raised his staff in the presence of Pharaoh and his officials and struck the water of the Nile, and all the water was changed into blood (Exodus 7:20). The fish in the Nile died, and the river smelled so bad that the Egyptians could not drink its water. Blood was everywhere in Egypt (Exodus 7:21). But the Egyptian magicians did the same things by their secret arts, and Pharaoh’s heart became hard: he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said (Exodus 7:22). 
Thought for today: with God, all things are possible 
Thought for the future: you have all you need in life, when you have God in your life. Where will you spend your eternity?

God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth” (Genesis 9:1). God said to Noah and to his sons with him (Genesis 9:8), “I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you” (Genesis 9:9), “and with every living creature that was with you, the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you, every living creature on earth” (Genesis 9:10). “I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood, never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth” (Genesis 9:11). And God said “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come” (Genesis 9:12). “I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth” (Genesis 9:13). “Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds” (Genesis 9:14), “I will remember the covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. So God said to Noah “This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on earth” (Genesis 9:17). 
Thought for today: be in partnership with God, and your future is assured.

Adam and Eve had a son they called Cain. Eve said “With the help of the Lord I have brought forth a man (Genesis 4:1). Later she gave birth to his brother Abel. Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil (Genesis 4:2). In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord (Genesis 4:3). Then the Lord said to Cain “Why are you angry?” Why is your face downcast?” (Genesis 4:6). “If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door, it desires to have you, but you must master it” (Genesis 4:7). Now Cain said to his brother Abel “Let’s go out to the field.” And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him (Genesis 4:8). Then the Lord said to Cain “Where is your brother Abel?” Cain replied “I don’t know, am I my brother’s keeper?” (Genesis 4:9). The Lord said “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground” (Genesis 4:10). “Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand” (Genesis 4:11). “When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth” (Genesis 4:12). Cain said to the Lord “My punishment is more than I can bear” (Genesis 4:13). “Today you are driving me from the land, and I will be hidden from your presence. I will be a restless wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me” (Genesis 4:14). But the Lord said to him ‘Not so, if anyone kills Cain, he will suffer vengeance seven times over.” Then the Lord put a mark on Cain so that no-one who found him would kill him (Genesis 4:15). So Cain went out from the Lord’s presence and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden (Genesis 4:16).

Two Angels arrived at Sodom in the evening and Lot was sitting in the gateway (Genesis 19:1). The two men said to Lot “Do you have anyone else here - sons-in-law, sons or daughters, or anyone else in the city who belongs to you? Get them out of here” (Genesis 19:12), “because we are going to destroy this place. The outcry to the Lord against its people is so great that He has sent us to destroy it” (Genesis 19:13). So Lot went out and spoke with his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry his daughters. He said “Hurry and get out of this place, because the Lord is about to destroy the city” But his sons-in-law thought he was joking (Genesis 19:14). With the coming of dawn, the Angels urged Lot, saying “Hurry! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, or you will be swept away when the city is punished” (Genesis 19:15). When he hesitated, the Angels grasped his hand and the hands of his wife and his two daughters and led them safely out of the city, for the Lord was merciful to them (Genesis 19:16). As soon as they had brought them out, one of the Angels said “Flee for your lives! Don’t look back, and don’t stop anywhere in the plain! Flee to the mountains or you will be swept away!” (Genesis 19:17). Lot said to them “But I can’t flee to the mountains, this disaster will overtake me, and I’ll die” (Genesis 19:19). “Look, there is a town near enough to run to, and it is small. Let me flee to it, then my life will be spared” (Genesis 19:20). The Angels agreed and said they would not destroy the small town of Zoar that Lot had told them about. 
By the time Lot reached Zoar, the sun had risen over the land (Genesis 19:21-23). Then the Lord rained down burning sulphur on Sodom and Gomorrah from the Lord out of the heavens (Genesis 19:24). Thus the Lord overthrew those cities and the entire plain, and all those living within them (Genesis 19:25). But while they were escaping the city, Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt (Genesis 19:26). 
Thought for today: you have all you need in life, when you have God in your life. 
Thought for the future: with God, all things are possible, including eternal life. Where will you spend your eternity?

The Lord appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day (Genesis 18:1). Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground (Genesis 18:2). He said “If I have found favour in your eyes, my Lord, do not pass your servant by” (Genesis 18:3). “Let a little water be brought, and then you may all wash your feet and rest under this tree” (Genesis 18:4). “Let me get you something to eat, so you can be refreshed and then go on your way, now that you have come to your servant.” “Very well” they answered “do as you say” (Genesis 18:5). So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah “Quick” he said “get three seahs of fine flour and knead it and bake some bread” (Genesis 18:6). Then he ran to the herd and selected a choice, tender calf and gave it to a servant, who hurried to prepare it (Genesis 18:7). He then brought some curds and milk and the calf that had been prepared, and set these before them. While they ate, he stood near them under a tree (Genesis 18:8). “Where is your wife Sarah?” they asked him. “There in the tent” he said (Genesis 18:9). Then the Lord said “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son.” Now Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, which was behind him (Genesis 18:10). Abraham and Sarah were already old and well advanced in years, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing (Genesis 18:11). So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought “After I am worn out and my master is old, I will now have this pleasure?” (Genesis 18:12). Then the Lord said to Abraham “Why did Sarah laugh and say ‘Will I really have a child, now that I am old?’” (Genesis 18:13). “Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year and Sarah will have a son” (Genesis 18:14).

Abram travelled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land (Genesis 12:6). The Lord appeared to Abram and said “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him (Genesis 12:7). From there he went on towards the hills east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord (Genesis 12:8). 
In chapter 17 when Abram was ninety nine years old, we see that the Lord changed Abram’s name to Abraham (Genesis 17:5), and his wife’s name from Sarai to Sarah (Genesis 17:15). 
Thought for today: let God’s word fill your mind, rule your heart, and lead your way. 
Thought for the future: only one Saviour has an empty grave. Jesus knows the way to heaven, so follow Him for life. Where will you spend your eternity?

He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about (Genesis 22:3). On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance (Genesis 22:4). He said to his servants “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you” (Genesis 22:5). Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together (Genesis 22:6), Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham “Father?” “Yes, my son?” Abraham replied “The fire and wood are here” Isaac said “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” (Genesis 22:7). Abraham answered “God Himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son” and the two of them went on together (Genesis 22:8). When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood (Genesis 22:9). Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son (Genesis 22:10). But the Angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven “Abraham, Abraham!” “Here I am” he replied (Genesis 22:11). “Do not lay a hand on the boy” said the Angel. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son” (Genesis 22:12). 
Thought for today: Abraham trusted God completely, even to the point where he was prepared to sacrifice his only son. 
Thought for the future: no-one is more secure than those in God’s hands. Where will you spend your eternity?

Thought for today: one of God’s greatest presents, is His presence in our lives.

Jesus said “I tell you that this man (the tax collector), rather than the other (the Pharisee), went home justified before God. “A Tree And Its Fruit” 
No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit (Luke 6:43). Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thorn-bushes, or grapes from briers (Luke 6:44). The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks (Luke 6:45).

Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? (Luke 6:46). I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice (Luke 6:47). He is like a man building a house, who dug deep down and laid the foundation on rock. When the flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built (Luke 6:48). But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete (Luke 6:49). 
Thought for today: our salvation is secure, because God’s word is true. 
Thought for the future: on our own life is a hopeless end, but with God it’s an endless hope. Where will you spend your eternity?

Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about Him spread through the whole countryside. (Luke 4:14). He taught in their synagogues, and everyone praised Him (Luke 4:15). He went to Nazareth, where He had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day He went into the synagogue, as was His custom. And He stood up to read (Luke 4:16). The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. Unrolling it, He found the place where it is written (Luke 4:17), “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed” (Luke 4:18), “to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour” (Luke 4:19). Then He rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on Him (Luke 4:20). And He began by saying to them “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing” (Luke 4:21). All spoke well of Him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from His lips. “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” they asked (Luke 4:22). 
Thought for today: let God’s word fill your mind, rule your heart, and lead your way. 
Thought for the future: if you follow Jesus, you’re on the righteous path. Where will you spend your eternity?

Song # 1029.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in Luke chapter 2 about Jesus when He was a twelve year old boy, and when He amazed the people in the temple at Jerusalem with His knowledge. 
Every year His parents went to Jerusalem for the Feast of the Passover (Luke 2:41). When He was twelve years old, they went up to the Feast, according to the custom (Luke 2:42). After the Feast was over, while His parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it (Luke 2:43). Thinking He was in their company, they travelled on for a day. Then they began looking for Him among their relatives and friends (Luke 2:44). When they did not find Him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for Him (Luke 2:45). After three days they found Him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions (Luke 2:46). Everyone who heard Him was amazed at His understanding and His answers (Luke 2:47). When His parents saw Him, they were astonished. His mother said to Him “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you” (Luke 2:48). “Why were you searching for me?” He asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” (Luke 2:49). But they did not understand what He was saying to them (Luke 2:50). Then He went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But His mother treasured all these things in her heart (Luke 2:51). And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and men (Luke 2:52). 
Thought for today: Jesus will return one day, but will He be your Saviour, or your Judge? 
Thought for the future: be in partnership with God, and your future is assured. Where will you spend your eternity?

It is the day that Jesus rode into the city of Jerusalem on a borrowed donkey. The people placed their cloaks and palm leaves, cut from nearby fields, on the road ahead as Jesus passed by. 
As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of His disciples (Mark 11:1), saying to them “Go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no-one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here” (Mark 11:2). “If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ tell him ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.’” (Mark 11:3). 
They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they untied it (Mark 11:4), some people standing there asked, “What are you doing, untying that colt?” (Mark 11: 5). They answered as Jesus told them to, and the people let them go (Mark 11:6). When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, He sat on it (Mark 11:7). Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields (Mark 11: 8). Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” (Mark 11:9). “Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest!” (Mark 11:10). When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked “Who is this?” (Matthew 21:10). The crowds answered “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee” (Matthew 21:11). 
Thought for today: the richest people in the world, are those who invest in heaven. 
Thought for the future: be in partnership with God, and your future is assured. Are you in partnership with God? If not, where will you spend your eternity?
