Song # 1210.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. The Book of Exodus tells us of the birth of Moses in chapter 2. At that time Pharaoh believed the Israelites were becoming too numerous. Pharaoh gave this order to all his people “Every boy that is born to the Hebrews you must throw into the Nile, but let every girl live” (Exodus 1:22). 
Now a man of the house of Levi married a Levite woman (Exodus 2:1), and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. When she saw that he was fine child, she hid him for three months (Exodus 2:2). But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile (Exodus 2:3). His sister stood at a distance to see what would happen to him (Exodus 2:4). Then Pharaoh’s daughter went down to the Nile to bathe, and her attendants were walking along the river bank. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her slave girl to get it (Exodus 2:5). She opened it and saw the baby. He was crying, and she felt sorry for him. “This is one of the Hebrew babies” she said (Exodus 2:6). Then his sister asked Pharaoh’s daughter “Shall I go and get one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?” (Exodus 2:7). “Yes, go” she answered. And the girl went and got the baby’s mother (Exodus 2:8). Pharaoh’s daughter said to her “Take this baby and nurse him for me, and I will pay you.” So the woman took the baby and nursed him (Exodus 2:9). When the child grew older, she took him to Pharaoh’s daughter and he became her son. She named him Moses*, saying, “I drew him out of the water” (Exodus 2:10). 
* Moses sounds like the Hebrew for ‘draw out’. 
Thought for today: God can do extraordinary things through ordinary people. 
Thought for the future: one of God’s greatest presents, is His presence in our lives. Where will you spend your eternity?

#1210.1- The Birth Of Moses - (Exodus 2:1-10)

Song # 1205.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in Luke in chapter 19 about Zacchaeus, the chief tax collector. He was a rather short man and couldn’t see Jesus approaching because of the surrounding crowd. 
Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through (Luke 19:1). A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy (Luke 19:2). He wanted to see who Jesus was, but being a short man he could not, because of the crowd (Luke 19:3). So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see Him, since Jesus was coming that way (Luke 19:4). When Jesus reached the spot, He looked up and said to him “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today” (Luke 19:5). So he came down at once and welcomed Him gladly (Luke 19:6). All the people saw this and began to mutter “He has gone to be the guest of a ‘sinner’” (Luke 19:7). But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount” (Luke 19:8). Jesus said to him “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham” (Luke 19:9). “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost” (Luke 19:10). 
Thought for today: Jesus knows the way to heaven, so follow Him for eternity. 
Thought for the future: the Lamb who died for us is now our Shepherd who leads us. Where will you spend your eternity?

In his brief letter Jude encourages his readers “to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the Saints” (Jude 1:3). 
Dear friends, remember what the Apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold (Jude 1:17). They said to you “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires” (Jude 1:18). These are the men who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit (Jude 1:19). But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit (Jude 1:20). Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life (Jude 1:21). Be merciful to those who doubt (Jude 1:22). Snatch others from the fire and save them; to others show mercy, mixed with fear - hating even the clothing stained by corrupt flesh (Jude 1:23). To Him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy (Jude 1:24). To the only God our Saviour be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and for evermore! Amen (Jude 1:25). 
Thought for today: trust in God today, and prepare for your tomorrow. 
Thought for the future: a Christian’s inheritance is “for ever” guaranteed. Where will you spend your eternity?

Song # 1132.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. The Book of Isaiah is named after a great prophet who lived in Jerusalem in the latter half of the eighth century BC. In chapter 44 we are told that Jerusalem is to be inhabited. 
This is what the Lord says - your Redeemer, who formed you “I am the Lord who has made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself” (Isaiah 44:24), “who foils the signs of false prophets and makes fools of diviners, who overthrows the learning of the wise and turns it into nonsense” (Isaiah 44:25). (See Song #1037.1- The Tower Of Babel). “Who carries out the words of His servants and fulfills the predictions of His messengers, who says of Jerusalem ‘It shall be inhabited’ and of the towns of Judah ‘They shall be built’ and of their ruins ‘I will restore them’” (Isaiah 44:26), “who says to the watery deep ‘Be dry, and I will dry up your streams’” (Isaiah 44:27), “who says of Cyrus ‘He is my shepherd and will accomplish all that I please’ he will say of Jerusalem ‘Let it be rebuilt’ and of the temple ‘Let its foundations be laid’” (Isaiah 44:28). 
Thought for today: the Holy Bible may be old, but its truth is still valid today. 
Thought for the future: God is the living word, while the Holy Bible is His written word. Where will you spend your eternity?

Song # 1131.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. The Book of Isaiah is named after a great prophet who lived in Jerusalem in the latter half of the eighth century BC, and in chapter 42 gives us a song of praise to the Lord. 
Sing to the Lord a new song, His praise from the ends of the earth, you who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, you islands, and all who live in them (Isaiah 42:10). Let the desert and its towns raise their voices; let the settlements where Kedar lives rejoice. Let the people of Sela sing for joy; let them shout from the mountaintops (Isaiah 42:11). Let them give glory to the Lord and proclaim His praise in the islands (Isaiah 42:12). The Lord will march out like a mighty man, like a warrior He will stir up His zeal; with a shout He will raise the battle cry and will triumph over His enemies (Isaiah 42:13). He will lay waste the mountains and hills and dry up all their vegetation; He will turn rivers into islands and dry up the pools (Isaiah 42:15). He will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths He will guide them. He will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the thing He will do, He will not forsake them (Isaiah 42:16). But those who trust in idols, who say to images “You are our gods,” will be turned back in utter shame (Isaiah 42:17). 
Thought for today: we can please God through praising Him. 
Thought for the future: God is for ever, and so is heaven. It will be heaven to be with Him for ever. Where will you spend your eternity?

Song # 1130.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in the Old Testament section of the Holy Bible in the Book of Isaiah, chapter 35 about the joy of the redeemed. Isaiah was a great prophet who lived in Jerusalem in the latter half of the eighth century BC. 
Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way (Isaiah 35:3), say to those with fearful hearts “Be strong, do not fear, your God will come and He will come with vengeance; He will come with vengeance; with divine retribution He will come to save you” (Isaiah 35:4). Then the eyes of the blind will be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped (Isaiah 35:5). Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy. Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert (Isaiah 35:6). The burning sand will become a pool, the thirsty ground bubbling springs. In the haunts where jackals once lay, grass and reeds and papyrus will grow (Isaiah 35:7). And a highway will be there; it will be called the “Way of Holiness.” The unclean will not journey on it; it will be for those who walk in that Way; wicked fools will not go about on it (Isaiah 35:8). No lion will be there, nor will any ferocious beast get up on it; they will not be found there. But only the redeemed will walk there (Isaiah 35:9), and the ransomed of the Lord will return. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away (Isaiah 35:10). 
Thought for today: enjoy the abundance of God’s gifts, but never forget the Giver. 
Thought for the future: you have all you need in life, when you have God in your life. Where will you spend your eternity?

#1130.1- Joy Of The Redeemed - (Isaiah 35:3-10)

Song # 1128.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. The Book of Numbers tells us of the Israelites’ life in the desert from the time they left Mount Sinai until they reached the eastern border of Canaan, the land that God had promised them. This journey took them nearly forty years. 
The whole Israelite community set out from Kadesh and came to Mount Hor (Numbers 20:22). At Mount Hor, near the border of Edom, the Lord said to Moses and Aaron (Numbers 20:23). “Aaron will be gathered to his people. He will not enter the land I give the Israelites, because both of you rebelled against my command at the Waters of Meribah” (Numbers 20:24). “Call Aaron and his son Eleazar and take them up Mount Hor” (Numbers 20:25). “Remove Aaron’s garments and put them on his son Eleazar, for Aaron will be gathered to his people; he will die there” (Numbers 20:26). Moses did as the Lord commanded. They went up Mount Hor in the sight of the whole community (Numbers 20:27). Moses removed Aaron’s garments and put them on his son Eleazar. And Aaron died there on top of the mountain. Then Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain (Numbers 20:28), and when the whole community learned that Aaron had died, the entire house of Israel mourned for him thirty days (Numbers 20:29). 
Thought for today: we were created to glorify God. 
Thought for the future: God tests our faith so we can trust His faithfulness. Where will you spend your eternity?

When Solomon had finished the temple of the Lord and the royal palace, and had succeeded in carrying out all he had in mind to do in the temple of the Lord and in his own palace (2 Chronicles 7:11), the Lord appeared to him at night and said “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for myself as a temple for sacrifices” (2 Chronicles 7:12). “Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place” (2 Chronicles 7:15). “I have chosen and consecrated this temple so that my Name may be there for ever. My eyes and my heart will always be there” (2 Chronicles 7:16). “As for you, if you walk before me as David your father did, and do all I command, and observe my decrees and laws” (2 Chronicles 7:17), “I will establish your royal throne, as I covenanted with David your father when I said ‘You shall never fail to have a man to rule over Israel’” (2 Chronicles 7:18). “But if you turn away and forsake the decrees and commands I have given you and go off to serve other gods and worship them” (2 Chronicles 7:19), “then I will uproot Israel from my land, which I have given them, and will reject this temple which I have consecrated in my Name. I will make it a byword and an object of ridicule among all peoples” (2 Chronicles 7:20). “And though this temple is now so imposing, all who pass by will be appalled and say ‘Why has the Lord done such a thing to this land and to this temple?’” (2 Chronicles 7:21). “People will answer ‘Because they have forsaken the Lord, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshipping and serving them - that is why He brought all this disaster on them’” (2 Chronicles 7:22). 
Thought for today: your love for God can change the world, but don’t let the world change your love for God. 
Thought for the future: the heart of prayer, is our prayer from the heart. Where will you spend your eternity?

#1089.1- The Lord Appears To Solomon - (2 Chronicles 7:11-22)

Song # 1088.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in the Book of 2 Chronicles in chapter 5 that Solomon completed the building of the Temple of the Lord in Jerusalem, on Mount Moriah. 
When all the work Solomon had done for the temple of the Lord was finished, he brought in the things his father David had dedicated - the silver and gold and all the furnishings - and he placed them in the treasuries of God’s temple (2 Chronicles 5:1). Then Solomon summoned to Jerusalem the elders of Israel, all the heads of the tribes and the chiefs of the Israelite families, to bring up the ark of the Lord’s covenant from Zion, the City of David (2 Chronicles 5:2). And all the men of Israel came together to the king at the time of the festival in the seventh month (2 Chronicles 5:3). When all the elders of Israel had arrived, the Levites took up the ark (2 Chronicles 5:4), and they brought up the ark and the Tent of Meeting and all the sacred furnishings in it. The priests, who were Levites, carried them up (2 Chronicles 5:5). The priests then brought the ark of the Lord’s covenant to its place in the inner sanctuary of the temple, the Most Holy Place, and put it beneath the wings of the cherubim (2 Chronicles 5:7). The cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark and covered the ark and its carrying poles (2 Chronicles 5:8). There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets that Moses had placed in it at Horeb, where the Lord made a covenant with the Israelites after they came out of Egypt (2 Chronicles 5:10). The priests then withdrew from the Holy Place (2 Chronicles 5:11). All the Levites who were musicians, stood on the east side of the altar, dressed in fine linen and playing cymbals, harps and lyres. They were accompanied by 120 priests sounding trumpets (2 Chronicles 5:12). The trumpeters and singers joined in unison, as with one voice, to give praise and thanks to the Lord. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, they raised their voices in praise to the Lord and sang: “He is good, His love endures for ever” (2 Chronicles 5:13). 
Thought for today: one of God’s greatest presents, is His presence in our life. 
Thought for the future: the more we look to heaven, the less we need on earth. Where will you spend your eternity?

#1088.1- The Ark In The Temple - (2 Chronicles 5:1-13)

Song # 1086.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in the Book of 1 Chronicles in chapter 18, that the Lord gave David victory everywhere he went. 
David defeated the Philistines and subdued them, and he took Gath and its surrounding villages from the control of the Philistines (1 Chronicles 18:1). David also defeated the Moabites, and they became subject to him and brought tribute (1 Chronicles 18:2). Moreover, David fought Hadadezer king of Zobah, as far as Hamath, when he went to establish his control along the Euphrates River (1 Chronicles 18:3). David captured a thousand of his chariots, seven thousand charioteers and twenty thousand foot soldiers (1 Chronicles 18:4). When the Arameans of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck down twenty two thousand of them (1 Chronicles 18:5). He put garrisons in the Aramean kingdom of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject to him and brought tribute. The Lord gave David victory everywhere he went (1 Chronicles 18:6). David took the gold shields carried by the officers of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem (1 Chronicles 18:7). From towns that belonged to Hadadezer, David took a great quantity of bronze, which Solomon used to make the bronze Sea, the pillars and various bronze articles (1 Chronicles 18:8). When Tou king of Hamath heard that David had defeated the entire army of Hadadezer king of Zobah (1 Chronicles 18:9), he sent his son Hadoram to King David to greet him and congratulate him on his victory in battle over Hadadezer, who had been at war with Tou. Hadoram brought all kinds of articles of gold and silver and bronze (1 Chronicles 18:10). King David dedicated these articles to the Lord, as he had done with the silver and gold he had taken from all these nations: Edom and Moab, the Ammonites and the Philistines and Amalek (1 Chronicles 18:11). Abishai son of Zeruiah struck down eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt (1 Chronicles 18:12). He put garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became subject to David. The Lord gave David victory everywhere he went (1 Chronicles 18:13).

Thought for today: with God, all things are possible, except for one thing – it is impossible for God to lie (Hebrews 6:18). 
Thought for the future: we all must face Jesus in time. Will He be your Saviour, or your Judge? Where will you spend your eternity?

#1080.1- God's Certain Promise - (Hebrews 6:13-20)

The Philistines defeated the Israelites and every man fled to his tent. The slaughter was very great, Israel lost thirty thousand foot soldiers (1 Samuel 4:10). The Ark of God was captured (1 Samuel 4:11). After the Philistines had captured the Ark of God, they took it from Ebenezer to Ashdod (1 Samuel 5:1). Then they carried the Ark into Dagon’s temple and set it beside Dagon (1 Samuel 5:2). When the people of Ashdod rose early the next day, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the Ark of the Lord! They took Dagon and put him back in his place (1 Samuel 5:3). But the following morning when they rose, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the Ark of the Lord! His head and hands had been broken off and were lying on the threshold; only his body remained (1 Samuel 5:4). That is why to this day neither the priests of Dagon nor any others who enter Dagon’s temple at Ashdod step on the threshold (1 Samuel 5:5). The Lord’s hand was heavy upon the people of Ashdod and its vicinity; He brought devastation upon them and afflicted them with tumours (1 Samuel 5:6). When the men of Ashdod saw what was happening, they said “The Ark of the God of Israel must not stay here with us, because His hand is heavy upon us and upon Dagon our god” (1 Samuel 5:7). So they called together all the rulers of the Philistines and asked them “What shall we do with the Ark of the God of Israel?” They answered “Have the Ark of the God of Israel moved to Gath.” So they moved the Ark of the God of Israel (1 Samuel 5:8). 
But after they had moved it, the Lord’s hand was against that city, throwing it into a great panic. The Lord afflicted the people of the city, both young and old, with an outbreak of tumours (1 Samuel 5:9). So they sent the Ark of God to Ekron. As the Ark of God was entering Ekron, the people of Ekron cried out “They have brought the Ark of the God of Israel round to us to kill us and our people” (1 Samuel 5:10). So they called together all the rulers of the Philistines and said “Send the Ark of the God of Israel away; let it go back to its own place, or it will kill us and our people.” For death had filled the city with panic; God’s hand was very heavy upon it (1 Samuel 5:11). Those who did not die were afflicted with tumours, and the outcry of the city went up to heaven (1 Samuel 5:12). 
Thought for today: if you don’t repent today, tomorrow may be too late. 
Thought for the future: the heart of prayer, is our prayer from the heart. Where will you spend your eternity?

The rulers of the Philistines assembled to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god and to celebrate, saying, “Our god has delivered Samson, our enemy, into our hands” (Judges 16:23). When the people saw Samson, they praised their god saying “Our god has delivered our enemy into our hands, the one who laid waste our land and multiplied our slain” (Judges 16:24). While they were in high spirits, they shouted “Bring out Samson to entertain us.” So they called Samson out of the prison, and he performed for them. When they stood him among the pillars (Judges 16:25), Samson said to the servant who held his hand “Put me where I can feel the pillars that support the temple, so that I may lean against them” (Judges 16:26). Now the temple was crowded with men and women, all the rulers of the Philistines were there, and on the roof were about three thousand men and women watching Samson perform (Judges 16:27). Then Samson prayed to the Lord “Oh Sovereign Lord, remember me, Oh God, please strengthen me just once more, and let me with one blow get revenge on the Philistines for my two eyes” (Judges 16:28). Then Samson reached towards the two central pillars on which the temple stood. Bracing himself against them, his right hand on the one and his left hand on the other (Judges 16:29), Samson said “Let me die with the Philistines!” Then he pushed with all his might, and down came the temple on the rulers and all the people in it. Thus he killed many more when he died than while he lived (Judges 16:30). 
Thought for today: final justice is in the hands of a just God.

Then she called “Samson, the Philistines are upon you!” He awoke from his sleep and thought “I’ll go out as before and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had left him (Judges 16:20). Then the Philistines seized him, gouged out his eyes and took him down to Gaza. Binding him with bronze shackles, they set him grinding in the prison (Judges 16:21).

Samson went to visit his wife, but her father would not let him go in (Judges 15:1). “I was so sure you thoroughly hated her” said the father “that I gave her to your friend. Isn’t her younger sister more attractive? Take her instead” (Judges 15:2). Samson said to them “This time I have a right to get even with the Philistines, I will really harm them” (Judges 15:3). So he went out and caught three hundred foxes and tied them tail to tail in pairs. He then fastened a torch to every pair of tails (Judges 15:4), lit the torches and let the foxes loose in the standing corn of the Philistines. He burned up the shocks and standing corn, together with the vineyards and olive groves (Judges 15:5). When the Philistines asked “Who did this?” they were told “Samson, the Timnite’s son-in-law, because his wife was given to his friend.” So the Philistines went up and burned her and her father to death (Judges 15:6). Then he went down and stayed in a cave in the rock of Etam (Judges 15:8). The Philistines went up and camped in Judah (Judges 15:9). The men of Judah asked “Why have you come to fight us?” “We have come to take Samson prisoner” they answered, “to do to him as he did to us” (Judges 15:10). Then three thousand men from Judah went down to the cave in the rock of Etam and said to Samson “Don’t you realize that the Philistines are rulers over us? What have you done to us?” He answered “I merely did to them what they did to me” (Judges 15:11). They said to him “We’ve come to tie you up and hand you over to the Philistines.” Samson said “Swear to me that you won’t kill me yourselves” (Judges 15:12). “Agreed,” they answered. “We will only tie you up and hand you over to them. We will not kill you.” So they bound him with two new ropes and led him up from the rock (Judges 15:13). As he approached Lehi, the Philistines came toward him shouting. The Spirit of the Lord came upon him in power. The ropes on his arms became like charred flax, and the bindings dropped from his hands (Judges 15:14). Finding a fresh jaw-bone of a donkey, he grabbed it and struck down a thousand men (Judges 15:15). Then Samson said “With a donkey’s jaw-bone I have made donkeys of them. #1066.1- Fear The Lord - (Deuteronomy 10:12-22)

Song # 1064.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. The Book of Numbers tells us in chapter 21 that the Israelites grumbled against God and Moses, and suffered venomous snake bites. 
They travelled from Mount Hor along the way to the Red Sea, to go round Edom. But the people grew impatient on the way (Numbers 21:4), they spoke against God and against Moses, and said “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the desert? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!” (Numbers 21:5). Then the Lord sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died (Numbers 21:6). The people came to Moses and said “We sinned when we spoke against the Lord and against you. Pray that the Lord will take the snakes away from us.” So Moses prayed for the people (Numbers 21:7). 
The Lord said to Moses “Make a snake and put it on a pole, anyone who is bitten can look at it and live” (Numbers 21:8). So Moses made a bronze snake and put it on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, he lived (Numbers 21:9). 
Thought for today: God tests our faith, so we can trust in His faithfulness. 
Thought for the future: don’t be a part-time Christian, for there is no part-time heaven. Where will you spend your eternity?
