Song # 1292.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in the Book of 1 Peter in chapter 2 that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is the cornerstone for a new spiritual house for believers. 
As you come to Him, the living Stone - rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to Him (1 Peter 2:4), you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ (1 Peter 2:5). For in Scripture it says: “See, I lay a Stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in Him will never be put to shame” (1 Peter 2:6). Now to you who believe, this Stone is precious. But to those who do not believe “The Stone the builders rejected has become the capstone” (1 Peter 2:7), and “A Stone that causes men to stumble and a Rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they disobey the message - which is also what they were destined for (1 Peter 2:8). But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light (1 Peter 2:9). Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy (1 Peter 2:10). Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul (1 Peter 2:11). Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day He visits us (1 Peter 2:12). 
Thought for today: trust in God today, and prepare for your tomorrow. 
Thought for the future: when Jesus returns, it will be heaven for those who follow Him. Where will you spend your eternity?

The company of the prophets said to Elisha “Look, the place where we meet with you is too small for us” (2 Kings 6:1). “Let us go to the Jordan, where each of us can get a pole, and let us build a place there for us to live.” And Elisha said “Go” (2 Kings 6:2). Then one of them said “Won’t you please come with your servants?” “I will” Elisha replied (2 Kings 6:3). And he went with them. They went to the Jordan and began to cut down trees (2 Kings 6:4). As one of them was cutting down a tree, the iron axe-head fell into the water. “Oh my lord” he cried out “it was borrowed!” (2 Kings 6:5). The man of God asked “Where did it fall?” When the man showed Elisha the place, Elisha cut a stick and threw it there, and made the iron float (2 Kings 6:6). “Lift it out” he said. Then the man reached out his hand and took it (2 Kings 6:7). 
Thought for today: God can do extraordinary things through ordinary people. 
Thought for the future: to show you love God, share your love with others. Where will you spend your eternity?

Song # 1288.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. The Book of Isaiah is named after a great prophet who lived in Jerusalem in the latter half of the eighth century BC. We read in chapter 11 that we will all be judged, and those who love the Lord Almighty will live together in harmony with all the animals for eternity. 
The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him - the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord (Isaiah 11:2). He will not judge by what He sees with His eyes, or decide by what He hears with His ears (Isaiah 11:3); but with righteousness He will judge the needy, with justice He will give decisions for the poor of the earth (Isaiah 11:4). Righteousness will be His belt, and faithfulness the sash round His waist (Isaiah 11:5). The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them (Isaiah 11:6). The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox (Isaiah 11:7). The infant will play near the hole of the cobra, and the young child will put his hand into the viper’s nest (Isaiah 11:8). They will neither harm nor destroy on all my Holy Mountain, for the earth will be full of knowledge of the Lord (Isaiah 11:9). In that day the nations will rally to Him, and His place of rest will be glorious (Isaiah 11:10).

Song # 1286.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. From the Book of Isaiah we read in chapter 57 that God will comfort the contrite and revive the Spirit of the Lowly. Even though He knows we continue to sin against Him. 
The Lord said “I live in a high and holy place, but I’ll also be with those who are contrite and lowly in Spirit, to revive the Spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite” (Isaiah 57:15). “I will not accuse for ever, nor will I always be angry, for then the Spirit of man would grow faint before me - the breath of man that I have created” (Isaiah 57:16). “I was enraged by his sinful greed; I punished him, and hid my face in anger, yet he kept on his willful ways” (Isaiah 57:17). “I have seen his ways, but I will heal him; I will guide him and restore comfort to him” (Isaiah 57:18), “creating praise on the lips of the mourners in Israel. Peace, peace, to those far and near” says the Lord. “And I will heal them” (Isaiah 57:19). #1286.1- High And Holy Place - (Isaiah 57:15-21)

Song # 1282.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in the Book of 1 Kings in chapter 17 that Elijah was sent by the Lord to Zarephath, after he was fed by ravens in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan. (See Song # 1281.1- Elijah Fed By Ravens). 
The word of the Lord came to Elijah (1 Kings 17:8). “Go at once to Zarephath of Sidon and stay there. I have commanded a widow in that place to supply you with food” (1 Kings 17:9). So he went to Zarephath. When he came to the town gate, a widow was there gathering sticks. He called to her and asked “Would you bring me a little water in a jar so I may have a drink?” (1 Kings 17:10). As she was going to get it, he called “And bring me, please, a piece of bread” (1 Kings 17:11). “As surely as the Lord your God lives” she replied “I don’t have any bread - only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it - and die” (1 Kings 17:12). Elijah said to her “Don’t be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small cake of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son” (1 Kings 17:13). For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel says ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord gives rain on the land’” (1 Kings 17:14). She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family (1 Kings 17:15). For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the Lord spoken by Elijah (1 Kings 17:16). Some time later the son of the woman who owned the house became ill. He grew worse and worse and finally stopped breathing (1 Kings 17:17). She said to Elijah “What do you have against me, man of God? Did you come to remind me of my sin and kill my son?” (1 Kings 17:18). “Give me your son” Elijah replied. He took him from her arms, carried him to the upper room where he was staying, and laid him on his bed (1 Kings 17:19). Then he cried out to the Lord “Oh Lord my God, have you brought tragedy also upon this widow I am staying with, by causing her son to die?” (1 Kings 17:20). Then he stretched himself out on the boy three times and cried to the Lord “Oh Lord my God, let this boy’s life return to him!” (1 Kings 17:21). 
The Lord heard Elijah’s cry, and the boy’s life returned to him, and he lived (1 Kings 17:22). Elijah picked up the child and carried him down from the room into the house. He gave him to his mother and said “Look, your son is alive!” (1 Kings 17:23). 
Thought for today: God can do extraordinary things through ordinary people. 
Thought for the future: with God, all things are possible. Where will you spend your eternity?

In the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, Ahab son of Omri became king of Israel, and he reigned in Samaria over Israel for twenty-two years (1 Kings 16:29). Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab “As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word” (1 Kings 17:1). Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah (1 Kings 17:2). “Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan” (1 Kings 17:3). “You will drink from the brook, and I have ordered the ravens to feed you there” (1 Kings 17:4). So he did what the Lord had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan, and stayed there (1 Kings 17:5). Thought for today: our living God can take the fear out of our living.

The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves” (2 Kings 4:1). Elisha replied to her “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?” “Your servant has nothing there at all” she said “except a little oil” (2 Kings 4:2). Elisha said “Go round and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few” (2 Kings 4:3). “Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side” (2 Kings 4:4). She left him and afterwards shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring (2 Kings 4:5). When all the jars were full, she said to her son “Bring me another one.” But he replied “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing (2 Kings 4:6). She went and told the man of God, and he said “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left” (2 Kings 4:7). 
Thought for today: God’s hand is in everything, so leave everything in God’s hand. 
Thought for the future: enjoy the abundance of God’s gifts, but never forget the Giver. Where will you spend your eternity?

After Elijah was taken up to heaven by the Lord (see Song # 1271.1- Elijah Enters Heaven), Elisha picked up the cloak that Elijah had dropped (see Song # 1272.1- Elijah’s Cloak). Elisha was staying in Jericho when the people told him about the “bad” water. 
Healing the water. 
The men of the city said to Elisha “Look, our lord, this town is well situated, as you can see, but the water is bad and the land is unproductive” (2 Kings 2:19). “Bring me a new bowl” said Elisha “and put salt in it.” So they brought it to him (2 Kings 2:20). Then he went out to the spring and threw the salt into it, saying “This is what the Lord says ‘I have healed this water. Never again will it cause death or make the land unproductive’ ” (2 Kings 2:21). And the water has remained wholesome to this day, according to the word Elisha had spoken (2 Kings 2:22). 
Elisha is jeered. 
From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some youths came out of the town and jeered at him. “Go on up, you baldhead!” they said (2 Kings 2:23). He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the Lord. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youths (2 Kings 2:24). Then Elisha went on to Mount Carmel and from there returned to Samaria (2 Kings 2:25). 
Thought for today: while God is with us, we need not fear whatever is ahead of us. 
Thought for the future: God is greater than our greatest problem. Where will you spend your eternity?

The Lord took Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind (2 Kings 2:11). And Elisha saw him no more (2 Kings 2:12). Elisha picked up the cloak that had fallen from Elijah and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan (2 Kings 2:13). Then Elisha struck the water with the cloak, and it divided to the right and to the left, and he crossed over (2 Kings 2:14). The company of the prophets from Jericho, who were watching, said “The Spirit of Elijah is resting on Elisha.” And they went to meet him and bowed to the ground before him (2 Kings 2:15). “Look” they said “we your servants have fifty able men. Let them go and look for your master. Perhaps the Spirit of the Lord has picked him up and set him down on some mountain or in some valley.” Elisha replied “No, do not send them” (2 Kings 2:16). But they persisted until Elisha was too ashamed to refuse. So he said “Send them.” And they sent fifty men, who searched for three days but did not find Elijah (2 Kings 2:17). When the men returned to Elisha, who was staying in Jericho, he said to them “Didn’t I tell you not to go?” (2 Kings 2:18). 
Thought for today: our salvation is secure, because God’s word is true. 
Thought for the future: the more we look to heaven, the less we need on earth. Where will you spend your eternity?

We read in the Book of 2 Kings in chapter 2 that Elijah and Elisha crossed the Jordan River after Elijah struck the water with his rolled up cloak. The water divided and they crossed on dry ground. Then the Lord separated the two with a chariot of fire and horses, and took Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind. 
When the Lord was about to take Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal (2 Kings 2:1). Elijah said to Elisha “Stay here, the Lord has sent me to Bethel.” But Elisha said “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel (2 Kings 2:2). The company of the prophets at Bethel came out to Elisha and asked “Do you know that the Lord is going to take your master from you today?” “Yes I know” Elisha replied, “but do not speak of it.” (2 Kings 2:3). Then the Lord told Elijah to go to Jericho, and to the Jordan. And each time Elisha refused to stay behind and he accompanied Elijah on his journey to the Jordan. And each time the prophets asked Elisha if he knew that the Lord was taking Elijah today. Each time Elisha gave the same reply (2 Kings 2:4-7). When Elijah and Elisha stopped at the Jordan (2 Kings 2:7), Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up and struck the water with it. The water divided to the right and to the left, and the two of them crossed over on dry ground (2 Kings 2:8). When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?” “Let me inherit a double portion of your Spirit” Elisha replied (2 Kings 2:9). “You have asked a difficult thing” Elijah said “yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours - otherwise not” (2 Kings 2:10). As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind (2 Kings 2:11).

#1225.1- A New Heaven And Earth - (Isaiah 65:17-25)

We read in the Book of Daniel in chapter 3 of the gold image made by king Nebuchadnezzar, and his command by decree for everyone to bow down and worship the image whenever music was played. Failure to do so would result in being thrown into the furnace. 
King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold, 27 metres high and almost 3 metres wide, and set it up on the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon (Daniel 3:1). He then summoned all the officials to assemble for the dedication of the image, and they stood before it (Daniel 3:2-3). Then the herald loudly proclaimed “This is what you are commanded to do”(Daniel 3:4), “As soon as you hear all kinds of music, you must fall down and worship the image” (Daniel 3:5). “Whoever does not fall down and worship will immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace” (Daniel 3:6). So as soon as the people heard any music they fell down and worshipped the image (Daniel 3:7). At this time some astrologers said to the king “There are some Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon - Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego - who pay no attention to you, oh king. They neither serve your gods nor worship the image of gold you have set up” (Daniel 3:8-12). Furious with rage, Nebuchadnezzar summoned the three men and asked them if this was true and if it was they would be thrown into a fiery furnace (Daniel 3:13-15). Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to the king “We do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter” (Daniel 3:16). “If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it” (Daniel 3:17). “But even if He does not, we want you to know, oh king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold” (Daniel 3:18). Nebuchadnezzar was furious, and he ordered the furnace to be heated seven times hotter than usual (Daniel 3:19). So the three men, still wearing their clothes, were bound and thrown into the blazing furnace, and the flames of the fire were so hot it killed the soldiers who threw the three men, firmly tied, into the furnace (Daniel 3:20-23). Then king Nebuchadnezzar leapt to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers “Weren’t there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?” They replied “Certainly, oh king” (Daniel 3:24). He said “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods” (Daniel 3:25). The king approached the fire and called for the men to come out (Daniel 3:26). The three men came out in front of the assembled people, who all saw that no harm had come to them (Daniel 3:27). Then Nebuchadnezzar said “Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego who has sent His Angel and rescued His servants” (Daniel 3:28). 
Thought for today: God can do extraordinary things through ordinary people. 
Thought for the future: there is no-one more secure than those in God’s hands. Where will you spend your eternity?

Glancing this way and that and seeing no-one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand (Exodus 2:12). The next day he went out and saw two Hebrews fighting. He asked the one in the wrong “Why are you hitting your fellow Hebrew?” (Exodus 2:13). The man said “Who made you ruler and judge over us? Are you thinking of killing me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid and thought “What I did must have become known” (Exodus 2:14). When Pharaoh heard of this, he tried to kill Moses, but Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in Midian, where he sat down by a well (Exodus 2:15). Now a priest of Midian had seven daughters, and they came to draw water and fill the troughs to water their father’s flock (Exodus 2:16). Some shepherds came along and drove them away, but Moses got up and came to their rescue and watered their flock (Exodus 2:17). When the girls returned to Reuel their father, he asked them “Why have you returned so early today?” (Exodus 2:18). They answered “An Egyptian rescued us from the shepherds. He even drew water for us and watered the flock” (Exodus 2:19). “And where is he?” he asked his daughters. “Why did you leave him? Invite him to have something to eat” (Exodus 2:20). Moses agreed to stay with the man, who gave his daughter Zipporah to Moses in marriage (Exodus 2:21). Zipporah gave birth to a son, and Moses named him Gershom, saying “I have become an alien in a foreign land” (Exodus 2:12).
