Song # 1415.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of Matthew we read in chapter 13 that Jesus tells the people that the kingdom of heaven is like a net that catches good fish and bad fish. 
The kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into a lake and caught all kinds of fish (Matthew 13:47). When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away (Matthew 13:48). This is how it will be at the end of the age. The Angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous (Matthew 13:49), and throw the wicked into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth (Matthew 13:50). “Have you understood all these things?” Jesus asked. “Yes” they replied (Matthew 13:51). Jesus said to them “Therefore every teacher of the law who has been instructed about the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old” (Matthew 13:52). 
Thought for today: in good times and bad, our greatest asset is God. 
Thought for the future: our salvation is secure, because God’s word is true. Where will you spend your eternity?

In Acts chapter 20, we read that Paul was talking to people in a room on the third floor of a building in Troas late one night, when a young man name Eutychus, fell asleep while sitting in a window, and fell three storeys to his death. 
On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight (Acts 20:7). There were many lamps in the upstairs room where we were meeting (Acts 20:8). Seated in a window was a young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. When he was sound asleep, he fell to the ground from the third storey and was picked up dead (Acts 20:9). Thought for today: God can do extraordinary things through ordinary people.

When Judas, who had betrayed Jesus, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty silver coins to the chief priests and the elders (Matthew 27:3). “I have sinned” he said “for I have betrayed innocent blood.” “What is that to us?” they replied. “That’s your responsibility” (Matthew 27:4). So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself (Matthew 27:5). The chief priests picked up the coins and said “It is against the law to put this money into the treasury, since it is blood money” (Matthew 27:6). So they decided to use the money to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners (Matthew 27:7). That is why it has been called the Field of Blood to this day (Matthew 27:8). Then what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled ‘They took the thirty silver coins, the price set on Him by the people of Israel’ (Matthew 27:9), ‘and they used them to buy the potter’s field, as the Lord commanded me’” (Matthew 27:10). 
Thought for today: when you know the truth, then you will know what is false. 
Thought for the future: our salvation is secure, because God’s word is true. Where will you spend your eternity?

Song # 1673.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of 1 John we read in John’s letter that he tells us not to love the world. For the world and all its sinful desires will pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives for ever. Even though John wrote his letter some 2,000 years ago, his message is still very relevant to us today. 
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him (1 John 2:15). For everything in the world, the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does - comes not from the Father but from the world (1 John 2:16). The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives for ever (1 John 2:17). This is the last hour, and you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now, many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour (1 John 2:18). Thought for today: the more we look to heaven, the less we need on earth. 
Thought for the future: a place in heaven is set for those who trust in Christ. Where will you spend your eternity?

In Paul’s letter to the Colossians he tells us that we should always show respect to each other by sharing our Christian love in our home, and at work and be sincere with whatever we may do, and that we should do it with all our heart for the Lord. 
Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord (Colossians 3:18). Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them (Colossians 3:19). Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord (Colossians 3:20). Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they may become discouraged (Colossians 3:21). Workers, obey your earthly masters in everything, and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favour, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord (Colossians 3:22). Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as if working for the Lord, and not for men (Colossians 3:23), since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving (Colossians 3:24). Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and there is no favouritism (Colossians 3:25). Masters, provide your workers with what is right and fair, because you know that you also have a Master in heaven (Colossians 4:1). 
Thought for today: you can show your love for God through sharing your Christian love with others. 
Thought for the future: it will be heaven for those who trust in Jesus. Where will you spend your eternity?

“Let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you sacrificed, both Lord and Christ” (Acts 2:36). When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other Apostles “Brothers, what shall we do?” (Acts 2:37). Peter replied “Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38). “The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off - for all whom the Lord our God will call” (Acts 2:39). With many other words he warned them, and he pleaded with them “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation” (Acts 2:40). Those who accepted his message were baptised, and about three thousand were added to their number that day (Acts 2:41). 
Thought for today: Jesus asks us to join Him for life. 
Thought for the future: now is the time to invest in heaven. Where will you spend your eternity?

From one man He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth, and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live (Acts 17:26). God did this so that men would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us (Acts 17:27). For in Him we live and move and have our being. As some of your own poets have said “We are His offspring” (Acts 17:28). Therefore since we are God’s offspring (Acts 17:29), He now commands all people everywhere to repent (Acts 17:30). For He has set a day when He will judge the world with justice by the Man He has appointed. He has given proof of this by raising Him (Jesus) from the dead (Acts 17:31). 
Thought for today: we all have to face Jesus in time. Will He be your Saviour? Or your judge?

For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope (Romans 15:4). May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus (Romans 15:5), so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 15:6). Thought for the future: we share God’s truth so that others may profit, not for us to prosper. Where will you spend your eternity?

In his letter to the Romans, Paul writes in chapter 5:

But sin is not taken into account when there is no law (Romans 5:13). Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses (Romans 5:14). But through the grace of God, His gift of one man, Jesus Christ, brought justification (Romans 5:15-16). By the sin of one man, Adam, death reigned. But those who receive God’s grace, and the gift of righteousness, will reign in life through one man, Jesus Christ (Romans 5:17). Though all men since Adam have been condemned through sin, righteousness through Christ brings life for all men (Romans 5:18). For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous (Romans 5:19). So, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 5:21). 
Thought for today: when you follow Jesus, you’re on the righteous path. 
Thought for the future: no matter where you turn in life, you can always turn to God. Where will you spend your eternity?

All of us who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you (Philippians 3:15). Only let us live up to what we have already attained (Philippians 3:16). Join with others and take note of those who live according to His righteous ways (Philippians 3:17). For many live as enemies of the cross of Christ (Philippians 3:18). Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things (Philippians 3:19). But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Saviour from there, the Lord Jesus Christ (Philippians 3:20), who, by the power that enables Him to bring everything under His control will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like His glorious body (Philippians 3:21). 
Thought for today: the Lamb who died for us, is now our Good Shepherd who leads us. 
Thought for the future: Christ’s cleansing power can remove the stain of sin. Where will you spend your eternity?

Send it out to the ends of the earth. Say ‘The Lord has redeemed His servant Jacob’” (Isaiah 48:20).

Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you may also be tempted (Galatians 6:1). Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ (Galatians 6:2). If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself (Galatians 6:3). Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else (Galatians 6:4), for each should carry his own load (Galatians 6:5). Anyone who received instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor (Galatians 6:6). Do not be deceived, God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows (Galatians 6:7). The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction. The one who sows to please the Spirit will reap eternal life (Galatians 6:8). Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up (Galatians 6:9). Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers (Galatians 6:10).

In Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians we read that there are problems with Christian life and faith within the Church that Paul established in Corinth. Paul is saying that those who are wise in worldly things are “fools” while those who are wise in heavenly things are “wise”, even though they may be thought of as “fools” by the world’s standards. 
Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you? (1 Corinthians 3:16). If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is sacred, and you are that temple (1 Corinthians 3:17). Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a “fool” so that he may become wise (1 Corinthians 3:18). For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. Will they not both fall into a pit?” (Luke 6:39). “A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher” (Luke 6:40). “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?” (Luke 6:41). “How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye” (Luke 6:42).
