In the Book of Luke, in chapter 14, we read that Jesus tells us to help the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame, even though they cannot repay us. One Sabbath, Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee (Luke 14:1). When He noticed how the guests picked the places of honour at the table, Jesus told them this parable (Luke 14:7). 
“When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honour, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited” (Luke 14:8). “If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you ‘Give this man your seat.’ Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place” (Luke 14:9). “But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honoured in the presence of all your fellow guests” (Luke 14:10). “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted” (Luke 14:11). Then Jesus said to His host “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, or your rich neighbors, if you do, they may invite you back so you will be repaid” (Luke 14:12). “But when give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind” (Luke 14:13), “and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous” (Luke 14:14). 
Thought for today: to show you love God, share your love with others. 
Thought for the future: when our actions involve Christ, then He is involved in our actions. Where will you spend your eternity?

#1433.1- The Righteous Resurrection - (Luke 14:8-14)

Song # 1434.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of Luke in chapter 13, we read how the Pharisees warn Jesus that Herod wants to kill Him. 
Some Pharisees came to Jesus and said to Him “Leave this place and go somewhere else. Herod wants to kill you” (Luke 13:31). Jesus replied “Go tell that fox ‘I will drive out demons and heal people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal’” (Luke 13:32). “In any case, I must keep going today and tomorrow and the next day, for surely no prophet can die outside Jerusalem” (Luke 13:33). “Oh Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing” (Luke 13:34). “Look, your house is left to you desolate. I tell you, you will not see me again until you say ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord’” (Luke 13:35). 
Thought for today: we must all face Jesus in time. Will He be your Saviour? Or your Judge?

Thought for today: Jesus knows the way to heaven, so follow Him for eternity. 
Thought for the future: God’s Spirit in our heart is our lifetime guarantee. Where will you spend your eternity?

#1432.1- The Narrow Door - (Luke 13:22-30)

Since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1), through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God (Romans 5:2). We also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance (Romans 5:3), perseverance, character, and character, hope (Romans 5:4). And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us (Romans 5:5). You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly (Romans 5:6). But God demonstrates His own love for us in this, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). Since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through Him? (Romans 5:9). For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life! (Romans 5:10). Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation (Romans 5:11). 
Thought for today: Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die (Romans 5:7). 
Thought for the future: when Jesus returns, it will be heaven for those who follow Him. Where will you spend your eternity?

He grabbed him and began to choke him. ‘Pay back what you owe me!’ he demanded” (Matthew 18:28). “His fellow-servant fell to his knees and begged him ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay you back’” (Matthew 18:29). “But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt” (Matthew 18:30). “When the other servants saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed and went and told their master everything that had happened” (Matthew 18:31). “Then the master called the servant in. ‘You wicked servant’ he said ‘I cancelled all that debt of yours because you begged me to’” (Matthew 18:32). “’Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow-servant just as I had on you?’” (Matthew 18:33). “In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed” (Matthew 18:34). 
Thought for today: final justice is in the hands of a just God. 
Thought for the future: if you can’t do a good deed for someone, don’t do a bad deed instead. Where will you spend your eternity?

Someone in the crowd said to Jesus “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me” (Luke 12:13). Jesus replied “Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?” (Luke 12:14). Then Jesus said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed, a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions” (Luke 12:15). Then Jesus told the crowd this parable, “The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop” (Luke 12:16). “He thought to himself ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops’” (Luke 12:17). “Then the man said ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and goods’” (Luke 12:18). “And I’ll say to myself ‘You have plenty of good things laid up for many years, Take life easy, eat, drink and be merry’” (Luke 12:19). “But God said to him ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’” (Luke 12:20). “This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich towards God” (Luke 12:21). 
Thought for today: if you don’t repent today, tomorrow may be too late. 
Thought for the future: the more we look toward heaven, the less we need on earth. Where will you spend your eternity?

#1431.1- Parable Of The Rich Fool - (Luke 12:13-21)

The hand of the Lord was upon me, and He brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley, it was full of bones (Ezekiel 37:1). He led me to and fro among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry (Ezekiel 37:2). He asked me “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said “Oh Sovereign Lord, you alone know” (Ezekiel 37:3). Then He said to me “Prophesy to these bones and say to them ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! (Ezekiel 37:4). This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones, I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life (Ezekiel 37:5). I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin, I will put breath in you, and you will come to like. Then you will know that I am the Lord’ ” (Ezekiel 37:6). So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone (Ezekiel 37:7). I looked and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them (Ezekiel 37:8). Then He said to me “Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to it ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says. Come from the four winds, oh breath, and breathe into these slain, that they may live’ ” (Ezekiel 37:9). So I prophesied as He commanded me, and breath entered them, they came to life and stood up on their feet, a vast army (Ezekiel 37:10). Then He said to me “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel” (Ezekiel 37:11). “I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them, I will bring you back to the land of Israel” (Ezekiel 37:12). “Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord (Ezekiel 37:13). “I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land” (Ezekiel 37:14). 
Thought for today: on your own, life is a hopeless end. With God, it’s an endless hope.

If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off?” (Matthew 18:12). “And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety nine that did not wander off” (Matthew 18:13). “In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost” (Matthew 18:14). 
Thought for today: you have all you need in life, when you have God in your life.

#1421.1- The Lost Sheep - (Matthew 18:10-14)

Song # 1422.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. The Book of Isaiah tells us in chapter 18, about the prophecy against Cush - a Hebrew term for parts of what are now Ethiopia and Sudan. 
Woe to the land of locusts along the rivers of Cush, which sends envoys by sea in papyrus boats over the water (Isaiah 18:1). Go, swift messengers, to a people tall and smooth-skinned, to a people feared far and wide, an aggressive nation of strange speech, whose land is divided by rivers (Isaiah 18:2). All you people of the world, you who live on earth, when a banner is raised on the mountains, you will see it, and when a trumpet sounds, you will hear it (Isaiah 18:3). This is what the Lord says to me “I will remain quiet and will look on from my dwelling-place, like shimmering heat in the sunshine, like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest” (Isaiah 18:4). For, before the harvest, when the blossom is gone, and the flower becomes a ripening grape, He will cut off the shoots with pruning knives, and cut down and take away the spreading branches (Isaiah 18:5). They will be left to the mountain birds of prey and to the wild animals, the birds will feed on them all summer, the wild animals all winter (Isaiah 18:6). 
Thought for today: trust in God today, and prepare for your tomorrow. 
Thought for the future: no-one is more secure than those in God’s hands. Where will you spend your eternity?

If he listens to you, you have won your brother over” (Matthew 18:15). “But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses” (Matthew 18:16). “If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the Church, and if he refuses to listen even to the Church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector” (Matthew 18:17). “I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 18:18). “Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven” (Matthew 18:19). “For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them” (Matthew 18:20). 
Thought for today: prayer acknowledges our need for God. 
Thought for the future: a Christian’s inheritance is “forever” guaranteed. Where will you spend your eternity?

#1428.1- A Brother Who Sins - (Matthew 18:15-20)

Song # 1412.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In Romans chapter 3 we read that no-one is righteous in God’s eyes, and that the whole world will be accountable to God. Although this letter was written some 2000 years ago, its message is still very relevant to us today. 
There is no-one righteous, not even one (Romans 3:10). There is no-one who understands, no-one who seeks God (Romans 3:11). All have turned away, they have together become worthless, there is no-one who does good, not even one (Romans 3:12). Their throats are open graves, their tongues practice deceit. The poison of vipers is on their lips (Romans 3:13). Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness (Romans 3:14). Their feet are swift to shed blood (Romans 3:15), ruin and misery mark their ways (Romans 3:16), and the way of peace they do not know (Romans 3:17). There is no fear of God before heir eyes (Romans 3:18). Now we know the whole world will be accountable to God (Romans 3:19). Therefore no-one will be declared righteous (Romans 3:20). 
Thought for today: final justice is in the hands of a just God.

Song # 1412.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In Romans chapter 3 we read that no-one is righteous in God’s eyes, and that the whole world will be accountable to God. Although this letter was written some 2000 years ago, its message is still very relevant to us today. 
There is no-one righteous, not even one (Romans 3:10). There is no-one who understands, no-one who seeks God (Romans 3:11). All have turned away, they have together become worthless, there is no-one who does good, not even one (Romans 3:12). Their throats are open graves, their tongues practice deceit. The poison of vipers is on their lips (Romans 3:13). Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness (Romans 3:14). They devoted themselves to the Apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer (Acts 2:42). Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the Apostles (Acts 2:43). All the believers were together and had everything in common (Acts 2:44). Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need (Acts 2:45). Every day they continued to meet together in the Temple Courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts (Acts 2:46), praising God and enjoying the favour of all people. #1410.1- Fellowship Of Believers - (Acts 2:42-47)

However, the underlying message is that through Lord Jesus Christ, God will finally and totally defeat all His enemies, including Satan. God will reward His faithful people with the blessings of a new heaven and a new earth when this victory is complete. 
John tells us in chapter 12:

Song # 1419.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In Matthew chapter 16 we read that Jesus tells the disciples to be on guard against the teaching of the Pharisees and the Sadducees. (Pharisees – Jews who strictly follow the law of the Old Testament. Sadducees – a small but powerful group of Jews in New Testament times). 
When they went across the lake, the disciples forgot to take bread (Matthew 16:5). “Be careful” Jesus said to them. “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and the Sadducees” (Matthew 16:6). They discussed this among themselves and said “It is because we didn’t bring any bread” (Matthew 16:7). Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked “You of little faith, why are you talking among yourselves about having no bread?” (Matthew 16:8). “Do you still not understand? Don’t you remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered?” (Matthew 16:9). “Or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered?” (Matthew 16:10). “How is it you don’t understand that I was not talking to you about bread? Song # 1418.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in Matthew chapter 15, about a Canaanite woman who asked Jesus to help her daughter who suffered from demon possession. 
A Canaanite woman came to Jesus crying out “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is suffering terribly from demon- possession” (Matthew 15:22). Jesus did not answer a word. So His disciples came to Him and urged Him “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us” (Matthew 15:23). He answered “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel” (Matthew 15:24). The woman came and knelt before Him. “Lord, help me!” she said (Matthew 15:25). He replied “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to their dogs” (Matthew 15:26). “Yes, Lord” she said “but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table” (Matthew 15:27). Then Jesus answered “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour (Matthew 15:28). 
Thought for today: the Lamb who died for us, is now our Shepherd who leads us. 
Thought for the future: as the world becomes darker, the light of Jesus becomes brighter. Where will you spend your eternity?

In Paul’s letter to Titus, who was a Gentile convert to Christianity and a fellow worker assisting Paul, we read that we should do good wherever possible. For the Lord has saved us, not by anything that we have done, but by what Christ has done for us. 
At one time we were too foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another (Titus 3:3). But when the kindness and love of God our Saviour appeared (Titus 3:4), He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5), whom He poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Saviour (Titus 3:6), so that, having been justified by His grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life (Titus 3:7). Those who have trust in God can devote themselves to doing good (Titus 3:8). But avoid foolish controversies, arguments and quarrels because these are useless (Titus 3:9). Warn a divisive person once, and then warn him a second time. After that, have nothing to do with him (Titus 3:10). You may be sure that such a man is warped and sinful, he is self-condemned (Titus 3:11). 
Thought for today: give others peace of mind, not a piece of your mind.
