Discussion questions:

1. Today’s sermon made reference to a view called “moralistic therapeutic deism.” What does this mean? How can you see examples of this in the culture today? What are areas of our personal lives that are prone to this? How does the Gospel correct this view?

2. John Piper defines legalism as “an attitude, a spirit, a disposition of all kinds of behaviors and feelings that are rooted in a failure to be amazed that I am saved by grace.” What do you think of this definition? How does this expand our understanding of legalism? Why is it so tempting to fail to be amazed that we are saved by grace?

3. How do the two behaviors above feed hypocrisy? Have you ever seen hypocrisy in your own life? How do we apply the Gospel to our own lives in a way that kills hypocrisy?
