Prophecy. What a loaded word! There is far more prophecy in the Bible than any other manifestation of the Holy Spirit. Without it, we would be missing extremely critical information about who God is. Prophecy is essential to Christianity. Yet many Christians I know have been injured by statements made by so-called “prophets”, and we are justifiably concerned about people running about claiming they know what God wants other people to do. Can we unravel this? Does God still wish to speak to people today? Yes, He does, but we might have to rethink the very nature of what this word means.
