During a time of uncertainty, we are reminded of something that we can be certain of: Jesus and His sacrifice. The first reality we can be certain of is the single sacrifice: Jesus’s single sacrifice surpasses all time (9:26) and covers all believers but is offered to everyone (9:28). The single sacrifice suffices for all time and all believers because of Christ’s perfect obedience. The second reality we can be certain of is Jesus as the sitting priest (10:11-14). He sits because He is king, and He reigns over enemies: sin and death. How do you know we can be sure? We can be reassured in this decisive hope that Jesus has already defeated His enemies, and His work has been finished
.
We don’t need a second chance because the gospel eliminates the need for second chances. Jesus’s single sacrifice reminds us that we don’t need to try so hard to prove ourselves to God. Let’s delight ourselves in doing His will and knowing He will take care of us. While we wait for Jesus’s return, let’s eagerly wait for Him in obedience by fighting sin, what Satan is trying to do, and what God cares about. Redemption is coming!
