Zechariah: Prophet of Messianic Glory

Theme: The LORD remembers all His promises to Israel and will fulfill them through Messianic blessing.

What is the most central confession of Old Testament religion?
What is the most famous prayer in Judaism?

שְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ יְהוָה אֶחָֽד׃

Deuteronomy 6:4—“Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one!”

This prayer-confession of the oneness of the unique God of Israel will be made manifest in history when the LORD comes to reign as King over all the earth.

Zechariah 14:9—“And the Lord will be king over all the earth; in that day the Lord will be the only one, and His name the only one.”

Theological confession will become historical-eschatological reality. With the coming of the LORD, the return of the King, in the Person of the Messiah, Jesus Christ, the whole world we see and acknowledge the King. This will result in a recreation and pervasive holiness throughout the whole earth as the earth becomes a cosmic temple for God’s presence and glory.
