God used the sinful, even wicked, line of Jacob to carry the promises God first made to Abraham. People today can be made heirs of those promises through union with Christ, the true heir. God used sinful people, such as Jacob, in redemptive-history to show his own faithfulness, mercy, and power. God's election of sinners shows that we have no basis for boasting or self-righteousness.
