Jesus is the Christ, but not the Christ that the disciples expected.

The Christ Who Dies (Luke 9:7-9, 18-22, 43-45)

We see the extension of the kingdom of God in Jesus' sending the Twelve on a mission throughout Israel, with parallels to the church today.

The Extending Kingdom (Luke 9:1-6, 10)

Christians have both a human family and a divine family. Jesus demotes the human family in favor of devotion to himself. How should Christians relate to their human families, and is the human family or the divine family our true family?

True Family (Luke 8:19-21)

Lots of people are going out to hear Jesus, but who is the right kind of hearer? If you're the right kind of hearer, you will be like a visible light that illuminates the darkness all around you and grows brighter and brighter over time.

This Little Light of Mine (Luke 8:16-18)

Jesus includes and involves women in the kingdom of God and uses their contributions to advance his kingdom powerfully.

Wine and Spirits (Ephesians 5:18)

Jesus tells us to "judge not," yet Scripture also tells us that there is such a thing as right judgment and wrong judgment. Will there be a judgment? Are we to judge others outside the church, inside the church? How do we obey Jesus when he says to "judge not"?

Judge Not (Luke 6:37-42)

Jesus begins his Sermon on the Plain by pronouncing blessings and woes about two different groups of people--those who are in the kingdom of God and those who are not.

And why did God use so many plagues—ten plagues God sent on the Egyptians—before they relented and let the Israelites go. Why so many?

The accounts of Joseph in Genesis 37 to 50 have as much that is important about Judah as about Joseph. God worked through hardship to transform Joseph's character and Judah's character and also hinted at how he would redeem his people through Jesus Christ.

Sermon: Joseph and Judah (Genesis 50:15-21)

God used the sinful, even wicked, line of Jacob to carry the promises God first made to Abraham. People today can be made heirs of those promises through union with Christ, the true heir. God used sinful people, such as Jacob, in redemptive-history to show his own faithfulness, mercy, and power. God's election of sinners shows that we have no basis for boasting or self-righteousness.

Sermon: Hold on Tight (Genesis 35:9-15)

The biblical account of how God judged the wickedness of all people with a worldwide flood, but used Noah's Ark to preserve a remnant teaches us several important truths. God is concerned with the whole world and with society, he cannot tolerate sin, and he will yet again judge the whole world--but preserve a remnant of people that he has redeemed for himself.
