The Lord Jesus is called the Avenger (1 Thessalonians 4:6) which is an Old Testament allusion to a psalm in which the LORD God is called the God of vengeance (Psalm 94:1-2).

1 Thessalonians 4:6—“...the Lord is the avenger in all these things,...”
Psalm 94:1—“O LORD, God of vengeance,
God of vengeance, shine forth!"

In sanctification we represent the coming completion of holiness at the return of the Lord; in sin we represent the coming judgment of sin at the return of the Lord.
