“(and behold, a lead cover was lifted up); and this is a woman sitting inside the ephah.’ Then he said, ‘This is Wickedness!’...” (Zechariah 5:7-8)

The previous vision of the flying scroll (Zechariah 5:1-4) dealt with the need for the individual confession of sin and the discipline of judgment against sinners. This vision (Zechariah 5:5-11) deals with the removal of the sinful system itself from the land and, ultimately, from the whole world. The Jews had left Babylon but they had brought Babylon with them.

Wickedness will be removed from the land through God’s activity and set up as an idol in a house/temple that will continue to grow until a worldwide climax when it will be destroyed forever.

When the evil system is removed, rooted out of the whole earth, then God’s Kingdom will unfold on the earth and God’s will be done on earth as it is in Heaven (Matthew 6:10-11).
