For more than 50 years, the Hickory Withe Church shared a minister with the Oakland Presbyterian Church, and would have Sunday School each Sunday but would have worship services only twice a month. In 1980, with the recommendation of the session and a 100% vote of the congregation, the church withdrew from the Presbyterian Church of the United States denomination and joined the more conservative Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). 

We now have church services each Sunday morning at 11:00 am, Sunday school at 10:00 am and a Wednesday night fellowship dinner and Bible study at 6:15 pm and 7:00 pm respectively.

Welcome Rev. Tom Champness as he discusses the nine promises God gives to us in Jeremiah 31. 
 
This Sunday the sermon is from Jeremiah 31:7-25 – Jeremiah’s Christmas. 
“For I will satisfy the weary soul, and every languishing soul I will replenish.” – Jeremiah 31:25 
 
The famous Christmas carol contains the following stanza – “And ye, beneath life’s crushing load, whose forms are bending low, who toil along the climbing way with painful steps and slow, ….” Life crushes us at times, doesn’t it? We feel like we are slowly climbing Mt. Everest with pain in each step. But the carol goes on to direct us – “… look now! For glad and golden hours come swiftly on the wing: O rest beside the weary road and hear the angels sing.” God, through the incarnate Christ, satisfies and replenishes the weary, languishing soul.

 [7] For thus says the LORD: 
 “Sing aloud with gladness for Jacob, 
 and raise shouts for the chief of the nations; 
 proclaim, give praise, and say, 
 ‘O LORD, save your people, 
 the remnant of Israel.’ 
 [8] Behold, I will bring them from the north country 
 and gather them from the farthest parts of the earth, 
 among them the blind and the lame, 
 the pregnant woman and she who is in labor, together; 
 a great company, they shall return here. 
 [9] With weeping they shall come, 
 and with pleas for mercy I will lead them back,

 and your eyes from tears, 
 for there is a reward for your work,

 [18] I have heard Ephraim grieving,

In this sermon Pastor Keith explains how God initiated His great plan of rescue, revealing it to a young girl named Mary and she responded willingly and worshipfully. 
God’s plan to bring rescue to His people was quite peculiar. Though Mary had questions about the peculiarity of God’s rescue plan, she still trusted the promise that His plan would be fulfilled through her. It was through the power of the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:35,37) that God’s plan of bringing His Son into the world as a virgin-born child. Jesus was revealed to be the center character in God’s rescue story (Luke 1:31-33,35). 
 
Let’s respond as Mary did and ponder the glorious mystery of God’s great rescue plan and be capture with awe and wonder. 
 
Let’s receive Jesus into our lives and welcome His reign. 
 
Let’s overflow with praise to God and worship Him for who He is and what He has done in our lives.

“A Song of Joy” | Luke 1:67-79 
As Christmas is nearing, we gain joy from the festivities and anticipation leading up to the holiday. However, once Christmas is over, we tend to lose that joy. That kind of joy is short-lived, but the true, eternal joy of Christmas comes from the joy of salvation and the joy of faith rewarded. What makes the joy of salvation so great? Luke 1:68-78 reminds us of why salvation meets our greatest needs. Salvation means: God’s nearness (v. 68), freedom (v. 68), security (v. 69), rescue (v. 71), oath (v. 73), and the dawn of a new day (v. 78). The joy of faith rewarded (v. 8-17) comes from fruition coming to life and answered prayers by God. The birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus all lead to the eventual return of Jesus, which will reveal all of God’s glory and work. As Christians, we can look forward to our faith being rewarded by God upon the return of Christ.

As Christmas nears, let us sing a song of joy because of our joy in Christ and not temporary things. Pray that you would continue to seek God and that your joy would be revived, even during a trying year. Continue to pray, persevere, and look forward to the coming of Christ.

-We are currently offering Sunday Morning In-Person Services at 10am, all are welcomed to attend. At this time we are not offering Children’s Church or Sunday School options. Please check back frequently for updates as we are looking into other options to better serve the needs of the Church! 
-We will be serving Communion Today! Please be sure to prepare your elements and your hearts as we take this time to remember the sacrifice of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!! 
-On December 20th, we will be holding our annual "Celebration Immanuel!" This is our Special Christmas Service as we celebrate the Birth of our Savior! As an added bonus, we will be holding a special Communion! 
-Please remember, our Men's and Women's and Women's groups will be taking a 2 week break for Christmas and New Years. This Break is from December 20th and we will resume normal meetings the week of January 3rd. Prayer Meetings will be NOT be on Break, it will instead be moved to Monday's at 6:30pm during this time. 
-Starting today, we are holding a fundraiser in partnership with Samaritan’s Purse. The funds raised will be used to purchase Livestock for families in impoverished areas around the world.
