Sadly, not only have many died in the sincere practice of their faith, they have been mistaken as to the real meaning of Christ's words and may put their eternal destiny in jeopardy. We may have one literal example of the fulfillment of Christ's words in the apostle Paul. His response to a snake bite however teaches more than a miraculous survival might suggest. When a theological/practical problem arose within a local Christian church that was beyond their capacity to handle, the early church was able to make an appeal to a "higher court" of the church for a resolution to the dispute. Such was the situation in the Syrian city of Antioch, where the apostle Paul came into a sharp disagreement with some who were demanding that the Law of Moses be observed in order for anyone to be saved. The story is recorded in Acts 15 and has occasioned all sorts of arguments ever since on how to interpret it.  Watch as Pastor MacLaren shows how Acts 15 presents the beginings of a "Presbyterian" form of Church government which is best suited to promote the peace and progress of the church. Why has mankind insisted on making a "house" or temple for "God?"  Every human culture throughout history has shown a belief in some sort of deity, and has constructed temples in which that deity is to be worshipped.  Modern people might think that they have escaped that past by their faith in secularism and humanism, but they have onlly substituted one "supreme being" for another.  Watch as Pastor MacLaren shows through the sermon of the first Christian martyr how the true God cannot be confined to such temples, and can only be met in worship through Jesus Christ.
