We are closing our series, “Asking all the Wrong Questions,” except today, we will not look at a wrong question but a question from Jesus Himself. Jesus asks a question as to who we see Him as. 
 
He knows our faith determines our actions, so He wants us to be very clear about who He is. Of all the questions that can be asked, the answer to this one is the most important. This answer affects our eternal destinies, as well as our present security.

Luke 20:41-44 - Asking All the Wrong Questions – 03/22/15

Today, we come upon a subject that has left many people wondering what kind of life is coming in the future. 
 
We meet a group of people that are known today as the Sadducees. These are people that do not believe in the resurrection. They come to Jesus with a ‘test’ question to prove their brilliance. What we will find is that their failure to accept the resurrection had a way of tainting all aspects of their lives, as it can ours. 
 
In our study, we will see how essential this truth is and how the distortion of it can lead to all kinds of interpersonal conflict and lack of vision as to what is important.

As we begin a new series today, we will see Jesus rebuke those who have been resisting Him throughout His ministry. They begin testing him with what seem to be quite innocent questions, but the reality is that they are trying to trap Jesus. 
 
Like so many that come after them, the trap that they are setting for Jesus has already caught them. Pride has a death grip on their lives and they cannot even see it. 
 
Today, we explore the questions of authority. “Who has authority over me? Who or what do I serve?” Jesus has a way that we can be transformed in all areas of our lives, but it cannot happen until we first answer the authority question.

We are doing the wrap up of our series called ‘Lost and Found’. Today we look at a rebuke that Jesus gave to the religious influencers of His era. Religious people have not changed thru the centuries: they still judge others, are blind to their condition, and miss the Kingdom of God. 
 
Jesus sternly warns them today as well as us, to choose. Choose between the Love of money and the love of God. Choose to see others the way the Father sees them. Choose to press into the Kingdom of God. Choose to have a good marriage. Many choices confront us too, but the ones we look at today we cannot afford to get wrong.

Thru this event we are challenged: ‘where am I at spiritually?’ ‘am I like this ruler who is quick to find fault but not to extend mercy?’’ am I one who hangs around the Kingdom but never really entered it?’ 
 
God’s Kingdom is beautiful but it also dangerous. In this short series we will learn to examine ourselves to make sure we are not deceived while being about the things of His Kingdom.

Tradeoffs happen. They happen whether we are conscious of them or not. We only have so much time. We only have so many resources. We only have so many abilities. 
 
We have one life and an allotment of days. How do we use them? What access do we allow Jesus to have in them? We can put on a good show of outward appearances; Jesus goes right to the heart. 
 
Today's passage Jesus does just that, He goes to the heart where too often we are bound up spiritually; even paralyzed. Jesus today goes after greed. The problem with greed in our culture is that it is not only acceptable it is a normal part of life. Where there is greed there is no transformation. A tradeoff is needed. That what we will see today.

As we continue our series "Teach Us to Pray", we take a look at one of the most loved prayers of all time -the short, powerful, concise prayer that Jesus taught His disciples. People have been praying this prayer through the millennium and continue to even to this day. 
 
The question is -- does Jesus want us to pray this prayer verbatim or is this more of a model to base prayer upon? Some people wonder "Does this teach me how to pray?" We will study the passage and learn from Jesus as He taught His disciples. From this prayer, we may be surprised to see that Jesus teaches us so much more than just the "Lord's Prayer".
