Though there were endless demands on his time, Jesus modeled the importance of choosing rest. In our culture there is an obsession with busyness. We often choose busyness at the expense of experiencing real and restorative rest. When we do so we are living contrary to the example Jesus provided. Rest is holy. Jesus doesn’t invite us into a life of laziness, but he absolutely invites into a regular rhythm of quiet rest.

Two years ago, Southeast Christian Church prayed over Justin and Ashley Weece as they stepped out in faith to plant Iron Coast Church in Brunswick, Maine. 
That vision has become reality. Since launching in March, Iron Coast Church has already celebrated 45 baptisms—each one a story of transformation, faith, and God’s power at work in the Northeast.

When should we pray for healing?

When a filter stops doing its job, everything downstream is affected. The same is true in our spiritual and emotional lives — if we don’t regularly check what we’re allowing to guide our decisions, we drift. In the Gospel of Mark, we see how Jesus models a better filter for our commitments, our words, and how we see ourselves.

Check Your Filter

Jesus always had crowds clamoring for him, yet early and often he purposely stepped away to spend time in solitude. Jesus models the importance of escaping the noise of everyday life, to connect with the Author of Life. Our heavenly Father still speaks, but his voice is hard to hear in the noisy chaos of culture. Solitude isn’t something to fit in if you can find the time and space. Solitude is the priority everything else gets built on and around.
