If we've learned anything through our study of the book of Ephesians, it's that "Life Is Messy" because people are messy. And because we are, this week we'll take a look at marriages. They can be a total mess.Because Jesus is real, He leads and empowers us through the messiness of close relationships, even marriage.God created marriage for so much more than simply human happiness...He has a beautiful plan for humanity through the blessing of marriage. Justice is an important, yet often confusing, concept. Justice corresponds to what ought to be in the fabric of relationships. Justice is a rightness or certain rectitude between people and societies, structures, policies, cultural norms and laws. Injustice is the breakdown of what ought to be and justice is the existence or the promotion of what should be. 
 
Most people know justice as an ethical issue, as one of many concerns or "good things" that Christians should be interested in. But it's not just one of many good things, it's a theological necessity-one of the ways in which we come to know and learn about God. Learning about God should teach us about justice. And learning about justice should teach us about God.

Last week the nation was fascinated by the story of Asiana flight 214 into San Francisco. In the aftermath, the story surfaced of one of the flight attendants who calmly worked to get everyone off the plane as safely as possible. Disregarding her own safety, she worked hard to save the others and she was the last person to leave. Why did she do it? She led with her heart, not her head. God has just delivered the children of Israel from Egypt. Between the Passover event and the deliverance at the Red Sea, God moved powerfully in the lives of the children of Israel. As the narrative continues, God chooses to meet with Moses and the children of Israel at Mt. Sinai. 
 
Sinai is where God begins to share His heart for His people. God gives His law (ie. the righteous requirements for living) at Sinai. In dramatic fashion, God meets with His people and explains to them what it means to live a godly life. The New Testament reveals to us that the law reveals our sinfulness and our need for a Savior. Thus, the law points to our need for salvation in Jesus. What an incredible reality!

Passover is our first series in the book of Exodus. From Genesis to Revelation, we know that the Passover lamb was a picture of an even greater sacrifice, Jesus the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. You do not want to miss this first series from the book of Exodus.

The nation is still recovering, ever so slowly, from last week's shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Funerals for the victims continue on, and people argue vehemently over gun control. During a season when people are usually driving to the mall, shopping, baking, hosting Christmas parties, and singing "Joy to the word, the Lord is come!" not many are feeling very "'tis the season to be jolly...fa la la la la, la la la la." 
 
Yet the Bible tells us that the angel said, "Don't be afraid! I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people." Real joy. Joy that is above and beyond our most difficult circumstances. Don't you want that joy? Well we will talk about it this Sunday...not just that it exists, but how to bridge the gap between what we sing and what we see. God wants to give us real joy this Christmas, and if you join us Sunday and bring along friends and family, we will be swimming in it! We hope to see you there.
