The Festival of the Ascension of Our Lord 
 
This feast day has everything in it – Christmas, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, the Ascension itself, the anticipation of Pentecost and the whole of Half Year of the Church. It’s Ascension Day! Aren’t you happy for him! He has triumphed and entered into his glory by keeping all of his Word! His triumph today guarantees that he will always keep his Word. Aren’t you happy for yourself, too!

First Lesson: Deuteronomy 33:26-29 
Where is there a god like our God, who does such wondrous and mighty things, and all of it for our benefit? The gods of pleasure disappoint and go away. The gods of gold and silver are used up, are stolen and otherwise disappear. The god of self is always helpless and alone. But this is our God, the God who saves, the God who endures all and triumphs for us and for our salvation. May he remain our God forever and ever! May his Word keep bringing him to us and us to him that we may enjoy the blessings here described and promised, blessings granted even now (whether we see it or not), blessings yet to be fully enjoyed when he keeps his final promise and takes us to heaven 
 
 
Second Lesson: Ephesians 4:7-16 
This reading can serve as a bridge to what is coming in the second half of the year. Christ by his life and death, by his resurrection and ascension, has won for himself a Church. All of its members alike have been redeemed from sin and death and hell. To each he has given gifts in addition to the gifts of salvation in Word and sacraments common to all believers. The gifts to each individually are intended as gifts for the benefit of all collectively. By those gifts administered according to his Word each and all are served by Christ himself, who in love has so generously distributed his gifts as a great and generous King to subjects he has loved to death and beyond. Let us then cling to him in his Word that we may grow in him and in his grace to bring forth fruit in our hearts and in our lives of mutual service. 
 
 
Gospel: Luke 24:44-53 
Here we have what Luther said so often: God would never lie to us! No better proof is there than the parting words of Jesus. We might have expected the disciples to be sad. But with the confirmation of all of the Scriptures and the assurance that he would always be with them in his Word how could they help but rejoice and be glad. He has triumphed. He did it all in the lowly human nature, now fully exalted. And he did it all for us! His triumph therefore is our triumph. It is ours to share in the preaching of repentance and forgiveness. We have him still in that message that saves because he kept his next promise to send and to keep on sending the Spirit with the power to convert and keep us until he comes again. 44 He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”

Catchy melodies, memorable pictures, and other mnemonic devices to help you memorize Bible verses more quickly, more easily, and remember them longer.  Pick a verse or two to learn each week, and go over them several times a day.  God's word is the most valuable, powerful thing you can put into your mind and hide in your heart.  Start with "Scripture Memory 101" to understand how to approach these songs and help you create and organize a scripture memory system to review the verses you've learned.  If you are a new Christian, start with "Welcome to the Family"  for information on getting started in your walk with God.  I have a Ph.D. in Music with a Masters in Music with emphasis on Musical Mnemonics from the University of Florida.  I have been memorizing Bible verses since I was around 10.  After I had memorized just over 850, when I was in college, the references began to mix together in my head and I had trouble keeping the reference with its specific verse. Songs help.

To help my kids memorize 1 Corinthians 9:24-25, I put it to “All I want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth.”  The text is, "Do you not know that in a race, all the runners run, but only one gets the prize?  Run in such a way as to get the prize.  Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever."  Sing the song and you will memorize this verse and reference quickly and easily. God's Timing Galatians 3:4-5 
 
Timing is maybe the fundamental bits of power. 
 
In all honesty, the qualification between an exceptional pioneer and a defenseless pioneer isn't just acknowledging what to do yet acknowledging when to do it. The condition is everything. 
 
The difference between a speaker who holds your thought and one who doesn't is all in the situation. 
 
If you don't dominate timing, you'll fight with power. 
 
God has a timetable for everything that happens. 
 
God had been telling the world for centuries that he was going to send a Savior. 
But God waited thousands of years for just the right time to send his Son. 
 
Why didn’t God send him sooner? 
 
God had his own timetable for Christmas. 
 
The Bible says, 
“But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children”. 
 
We don’t know why God sent Jesus when he did, but we know it was the right time to do what he wanted to do. 
 
The same is true in your ministry. 
God has a timetable. 
You may not know what it is right now, but you can trust that his timing is perfect. 
 
My friend, God is not in a hurry. He has a timetable that he will fulfill. 
 
His timing is always perfect. 
 
#Be intentional.

I have been preaching and teaching Bible for over 50 years. In 1957, I began studying the scriptures diligently after graduating from high school. In 1980, God began dealing with me, bringing me to what I believed was my deathbed in 1985. In the hospital, I awoke near death crying out to God, "Lord, You are going to kill me if I don't quit living for myself and saying all the truth in my power!!!" Thereafter, I began to say these blunt plain words that appeal to the elect sheep. As a result, I began to make more enemies than I could have ever imagined. I was sick and tired of the “mush” gospel that churches were preaching. My family was confused, and on many occasions on the way home from church, my wife would say, "he said such-and-such last week and he said this-and-that this week contradicting what he said the previous week." I began to say to my wife Mary, "don't listen to the preacher, because he doesn't know what he’s talking about." Finally, I said, "this is a waste of time! We are going home. We are not going to these churches anymore. I will teach you from our home." We then started Grace and Truth Ministries 
 
God Has Chosen 
Romans 8:29-30 - "For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified." 
 
Foreknow - to have a personal intimate relationship beforehand. 
 
God predetermined that all who belonged to him before the foundation of the world were to "conform" to the word of God in obedience to Christ. 
 
All that were predestined were "called", "justified", and "glorified" (past tense verbs). These were fixed in the mind of God before the world began. (Ephesians 1:4; Acts 13:48; II Thessalonians 2:13). The election of the saints is unto accountability (I Peter 1:2). 
 
The majority of the protestant church held to this doctrine during the reformation. It is the foundation of "The London Baptist Confession of Faith of 1689". You Baptists are supposed to be believing it and you've discarded this precious doctrine of Grace !!!

An American Missionary

Do you remember how Clarence got his wings? By saving George Bailey of course! In the classic Christmas movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” when George Bailey couldn’t find the bank money taken by the evil Mr. Potter, George thought his world was crashing down around him and contemplated suicide. Diverted to rescue Clarence from the river, George was given a glimpse of what life would be like if he hadn’t lived. The shock of realizing how much he meant to so many others shook him out of his self-pity and drove him to return and deal with the problem. 
 
But is that what really saved George? Think about the scene when George rushed back into his home and found dozens of people there to help him. The news of his problem had spread and many of the people who had been helped by George and his bank came to his rescue. Whether large or small their gifts demonstrated their gratitude to him for helping them in their time of need. It didn’t take long for the whole sum to be made up as people generously reminded George that they hadn’t forgotten what he did for them. 
 
Gratitude will make folk do some strange things; wonderful things. At the end of King Saul’s life his body was hung on the side of a Philistine city wall to display their victory over Israel (1 Samuel 31:8-10). Decades earlier, Saul’s first act as king was to rescue the city of Jabesh-gilead from the Ammonites (1 Samuel 11). The people of Jabesh-gilead remembered what Saul had done for them and refused to let this dishonor stand. So they marched through the night, took the body down, and disposed of it with dignity. 
 
“Now when the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul, all the valiant men got up and walked all night, and they took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and they came to Jabesh and burned them there. And they took their bones and buried them under the tamarisk tree in Jabesh, and fasted for seven days.” (1 Sam 31:11-13). In their gratitude they were willing to risk their very lives to honor Saul in his death. 
 
What about us? Jesus left heaven, took on flesh, lived in the stench and squalor of earth, and then marched through death to break down the gates of hell to rescue us from the power of Satan. What will you do in gratitude? Seriously, what are we willing to risk in our gratitude for Jesus giving His life to save us? If we’re honest would we be put to shame by the simple act of honor the men of Jabesh-gilead showed Saul? Are we willing to be honest? Are we willing to act? Do we have an attitude of gratitude?
