Luke 11:27-28: Mary's Greatest Blessing, According to Jesus

In this passage, we see a contrast between Laban who represents the world and Jacob, who immediately responded to God's instruction to leave. The passage is about learning to submit ourselves to the will of God - and how God enables us to do that. This passage is also a foreshadowing of the Exodus from Egypt and a foreshadowing of our deliverance from sin.

It is God's design that marriage is a life-long monogamous covenant between one biological made and one biological female. Jacob deviated from this and married two sisters Leah and Rachel. In this lesson, we see the consequences of that action.

Isaac, against God's will, tries to bless Esau instead of Jacob. Rebekah takes matters into her own hands, sinning in the process, to help Jacob take the blessing from Esau. The chapter can be summed up by Proverbs 14:12 "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death."

Genesis 26:17-33 - Peace with God, Strife with Man

Esau's life is a picture of a man who wasted his life pursuing and valuing all the wrong things, trading heavens treasure for worldly, carnal, fleeting pleasure. When we choose to pursue the same things over heavenly treasure, we despise God's offer of salvation.

Lot and his family were brought out of Sodom with the instruction "Do not look back or stop anywhere in the valley." Lot's wife did look back. Jesus used Lot's wife as an example in Luke 17:20-33 when he said "Remember Lot's wife. Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will keep it." What was it that Lot's wife did that would result in her becoming a pillar of salt? Why should we remember her? Why is this relevant to us today?
