Song # 2085 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in Jeremiah chapter 29 from the letter he sent from Jerusalem. 
This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon (Jeremiah 29:4): “Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce” (Jeremiah 29:5). “Marry and have sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there; do not decrease” (Jeremiah 29:6). “Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper” (Jeremiah 29:7). Yes, this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel says; “Do not let the prophets and diviners among you deceive you. Do not listen to the dreams you encourage them to have” (Jeremiah 29:8). “They are prophesying lies to you in my name. I have not sent them” declares the Lord (Jeremiah 29:9). This is what the Lord says: “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfil my gracious promise to bring you back to this place” (Jeremiah 29:10). “For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11).

#2085- Plans For You - (Jeremiah 29:5-11)

Song # 2136 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in Psalm 106 that God became angry with His people after they disobeyed Him and worshipped idols. 
By the waters of Meribah the people angered the Lord, and trouble came to Moses because of them (Psalm 106:32). They rebelled against the Spirit of God, and rash words came from Moses’ lips (Psalm 106:33). They did not destroy the peoples as the Lord had commanded them (Psalm 106:34), but they mingled with the nations and adopted their customs (Psalm 106:35). They worshipped their idols, which became a snare to them (Psalm 106:36). They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons (Psalm 106:37). They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was desecrated by their blood (Psalm 106:38). They defiled themselves by what they did; by their deeds they prostituted themselves (Psalm 106:39). Therefore the Lord was angry with His people and abhorred His inheritance (Psalm 106:40). He handed them over to the nations, and their foes ruled over them (Psalm 106:41). Their enemies oppressed them and subjected them to their power (Psalm 106:42). Many times He delivered them, but they were bent on rebellion and they wasted away in their sin (Psalm 106:43). 
Thought for today: turn EVIL around and LIVE. 
Thought for the future: there’s only one way to heaven, but that’s all we need. Where will you spend your eternity?

The Lord swore to the people with uplifted hand that He would make them fall in the desert (Psalm 106:26). He would make their descendants fall among the nations and scatter them throughout the lands (Psalm 106:27). They yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor and ate sacrifices offered to lifeless gods (Psalm 106:28). They provoked the Lord to anger by their wicked deeds, and a plague broke out among them (Psalm 106:29). But Phinehas stood up and intervened, and the plague was checked (Psalm 106:30). This was credited to him as righteousness for endless generations to come (Psalm 106:31). By the waters of Meribah they angered the Lord, and trouble came to Moses because of them (Psalm 106:32).

He sent darkness and made the land dark - for they had rebelled against His words (Psalm 105:28). He turned their waters into blood, causing their fish to die (Psalm 105:29). Their land teemed with frogs, which went up into the bedrooms of their rulers (Psalm 105:30). He spoke, and there came swarms of flies, and gnats throughout their country (Psalm 105:31). He turned their rain into hail, with lightning throughout their land (Psalm 105:32), He struck down their vines and fig trees and shattered the trees of their country (Psalm 105:33). He spoke, and the locusts came, grasshoppers without number (Psalm 105:34), they ate up every green thing in their land, ate up the produce of their soil (Psalm 105:30). Then He struck down all the firstborn in their land, the firstfruits of all their manhood (Psalm 105:36). He brought out Israel, laden with silver and gold, and from among their tribes no-one faltered (Psalm 105:37). About noon as Saul came near Damascus, suddenly a bright light from heaven flashed around him (Acts 22:6). Saul fell to the ground and he heard a voice say “Saul! Saul! Why do you persecute me?” (Acts 22:7). “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked. “I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting” Jesus replied (Acts 22:8). Saul’s companions saw the light, but they did not understand the voice of Him who was speaking to Saul (Acts 22:9). “What shall I do, Lord?” Saul asked. “Get up” the Lord said “and go into Damascus. There you will be told all that you have been assigned to do” (Acts 22:10). Saul’s companions led him by the hand into Damascus, because the brilliance of the light had blinded him (Acts 22:11). A man named Ananias came to see Saul. He was a devout observer of the law and highly respected by all the Jews living there (Acts 22:12). Ananias stood beside Saul and said “Brother Saul, receive your sight!” And at that very moment Saul was able to see Ananias (Acts 22:13).

#2125- Your Marvellous Deeds - (Psalm 71:17-24)

Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? (Hebrews 12:7). If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons (Hebrews 12:8). Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of our Spirits and live! (Hebrews 12:9). Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our own good, that we may share in His holiness (Hebrews 12:10). No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it (Hebrews 12:11). Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees! (Hebrews 12:12). Make level paths for your feet, so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed (Hebrews 12:13).

By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient (Hebrews 11:31). And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets (Hebrews 11:32), who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions (Hebrews 11:33), quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and defeated foreign armies (Hebrews 11:34). Women received their dead back, raised to life again. Others were tortured and refused to be released, so they might gain a better resurrection (Hebrews 11:35). Some faced jeers and flogging, while still others were chained and put in prison (Hebrews 11:36). They were stoned; they were sawn in two; they were put to death by the sword, They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and ill- treated (Hebrews 11:37). The world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, and in caves and in holes in the ground (Hebrews 11:38). These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised (Hebrews 11:39). God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect (Hebrews 11:40).

It will be carried to Assyria as a tribute for the great king. Ephraim will be disgraced; Israel will be ashamed of its wooden idols (Hosea 10:6). A proclamation was issued throughout Judah and Jerusalem for all the exiles to assemble in Jerusalem (Ezra 10:7). Anyone who failed to appear within three days would forfeit all his property, in accordance with the decision of the officials and elders, and would himself be expelled from the assembly of the exiles (Ezra 10:8). Within the three days, all the men of Judah and Benjamin had gathered in Jerusalem. All the people were sitting in the square before the house of God, greatly distressed by the occasion and because of the rain (Ezra 10:9). Then Ezra the priest stood up and said to them “You have been unfaithful, you have married foreign women, adding to Israel’s guilt” (Ezra 10:10). “Now make confession to the Lord, the God of our fathers, and do His will. Separate yourselves from the peoples around you and from your foreign wives” (Ezra 10:11). The whole assembly responded with a loud voice. “You are right! We must do as you say” (Ezra 10:12). “But there are many people here and it is the rainy season, so we cannot stand outside. Besides, this matter cannot be taken care of in a day or two, because we have sinned greatly in this thing” (Ezra 10:13). “Let our officials act for the whole assembly. Then let everyone in our towns who has married a foreign woman come at a set time, along with the elders and judges of each town, until the fierce anger of our God in this matter is turned away from us” (Ezra 10:14). 
Thought for today: now is the time to invest in heaven.

This is what the Sovereign Lord says “I will now bring Jacob back from captivity and will have compassion on all the people of Israel, and I will be zealous for my Holy Name” (Ezekiel 39:25). “They will forget their shame and all the unfaithfulness they showed towards me when they lived in safety in their land with no-one to make them afraid” (Ezekiel 39:26). “When I have brought them back from the nations and have gathered them from the countries of their enemies, I will show myself Holy through them in the sight of many nations” (Ezekiel 39:27). “Then they will know that I am the Lord their God, for though I sent them into exile among the nations, I will gather them to their own land, not leaving any behind” (Ezekiel 39:28). “I will no longer hide my face from them, for I will pour out my Spirit on the house of Israel” declares the Sovereign Lord (Ezekiel 39:29). 
Thought for today: face your sins, repent, and put them behind you.

#2011- Their Own Land - (Ezekiel 39:25-29)

Song # 2013 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. The prophet Hosea preached in the northern kingdom of Israel, and was concerned about the idolatry of the people and their faithlessness towards God. Here we read in chapter 4 about the charge against Israel. 
Hear the word of the Lord, you Israelites, because the Lord has a charge to bring against you who live in the land “There is no faithfulness, no love, no acknowledgement of God in the land” (Hosea 4:1). “There is only cursing, lying and murder, stealing and adultery, they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed” (Hosea 4:2). “Because of this the land mourns, and all who live in it waste away. The beasts of the field and the birds of the air and the fish of the sea are dying” (Hosea 4:3). “But let no man bring a charge, let no man accuse another, for your people are like those who bring charges against a priest” (Hosea 4:4). “You stumble day and night, and the prophets stumble with you” (Hosea 4:5). “Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests, because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children” (Hosea 4:6).

Word came to Ezekiel “This is what the Sovereign Lord says ‘Although I sent them far away among the nations and scattered them among the countries, yet for a little while I have been a sanctuary for them in the countries where they have gone’” (Ezekiel 11:16). “Therefore say ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says. I will gather you from the nations and bring you back from the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you back the land of Israel again’” (Ezekiel 11:17). “They will return to it and remove all its vile images and detestable idols” (Ezekiel 11:18). “I will give them an undivided heart and put a new Spirit in them. I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh” (Ezekiel 11:19). “Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God” declares the Sovereign Lord (Ezekiel 11:20). 
Thought for today: no-one is more secure than those in God’s hands.

Song # 2005 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read about what makes a righteous man in Ezekiel chapter 18, when the word of the Lord comes to Ezekiel. 
Suppose there is a righteous man who does what is just and right (Ezekiel 18:5). He does not eat at the mountain shrines or look to idols of the house of Israel. He does not defile his neighbor’s wife (Ezekiel 18:6). He does not oppress anyone, but returns what he took in pledge for a loan. He does not commit robbery, but gives food to the hungry and provides clothing to those in need (Ezekiel 18:7). He does not lend at usury (money lending) or take excessive interest. He withholds his hand from doing wrong and judges fairly between man and man (Ezekiel 18:8). He follows my decrees and faithfully keeps my laws. That man is righteous, he will surely live. 
Thought for today: be right with righteousness and stay strong against wrong. 
Thought for the future: not everyone will get into heaven, but the righteous man will. Where will you spend your eternity? 
 
The verse “He does not differentiate in any situation” marked as part of Ezekiel 18:8 reveals that a righteous man will not accept a “wrong” to resolve an issue, and will only accept a “right” in keeping with God’s righteousness.

How deserted lies the city, once so full of people, who once was great among the nations (Lamentations 1:1). Bitterly she weeps at night, tears upon her cheeks; there is none to comfort her. All her friends have betrayed her; they have become her enemies (Lamentations 1:2). She dwells among the nations; she finds no resting place (Lamentations 1:3). The roads to Zion mourn for no-one comes to her appointed feasts. All her gateways are desolate, and she is in bitter anguish (Lamentations 1:4). Her foes have become her masters; her enemies are at ease. The Lord has brought her grief because of her many sins (Lamentations 1:5). All the splendour has departed, her princes have fled (Lamentations 1:6). Her enemies looked at her and laughed at her destruction (Lamentations 1:7). Jerusalem has sinned greatly and so has become unclean. All who honoured her despise her, and she turns away (Lamentations 1:8). 
Thought for today: God’s help is only a prayer away. 
Thought for the future: don’t be a ‘part-time’ Christian, enjoy God’s gifts every day.

The Lord said to Jeremiah “Go and stand at the gate of the people, through which the kings of Judah go in and out; stand also at all the other gates of Jerusalem” (Jeremiah 17:19). “Say to them: ‘Hear the word of the Lord, oh kings of Judah and all the people of Judah and everyone living in Jerusalem who come through these gates’” (Jeremiah 17:20). “This is what the Lord says: ‘Be careful not to carry a load on the Sabbath day or bring it through the gates of Jerusalem’” (Jeremiah 17:21). “Do not bring a load out of your houses or do any work on the Sabbath, but keep the Sabbath day holy, as I commanded your forefathers” (Jeremiah 17:22). “Yet they did not listen or pay attention; they were stiff-necked and would not listen or respond to discipline” (Jeremiah 17:23). “But if you are careful to obey me” declares the Lord “and bring no load through the gates of this city on the Sabbath, but keep the Sabbath day holy by not doing any work on it” (Jeremiah 17:24), “then kings who sit on David’s throne will come through the gates of this city with their officials.
